Go get it covered with mud and road grime and you won't notice the color any more.

If you're exchanging to another color or upgrading to a higher model, they'll probably do it...but why would they take back a "used" bike?

How is it a "used" bike after one day? That's no more than a test ride.

i'm sorry what do you mean by a used bike?
i rode it when i tested it before buying
but have not touched it since

unfortunately they dont have the color i want so i was planning on returning it and getting another from another store

if it was a cheap bike id be okay living with the color
but i paid 2100 for a cervelo soloist team and i want to be happy with my purchase

I realise I am coming from this from a Uk angle BUT did you not realise you did not like the colour when you took it from the shop? Why did you accept it?

Take some resposibility for your actions.

i did admit it was stupid already
i went to the store knowing the color i wanted but they told me that it was an old model and cervelo no longer produced it. it didnt occur to me at that point to check other bike stores - i was too excited about getting a new bike

I was in my LBS when someone was asking about a return policy like you are describing. He said basically that once it's sold it can no longer be sold again as a new bike. You can't take a car off the lot and bring it back either. They have no idea what could have happened to the bike from the time it leaves to the time it comes back. Also especially for a fairly high end carbon bike like you bought... if I was coming in to buy one too i'd be damned if i'm going to get one that's been slightly used at the same New price. Not to mention the liability if something happened to that bike and it got back to the buyer that the LBS sold them a bike that had been previously sold.. they'd be screwed

"unfortunately they dont have the color i want so i was planning on returning it and getting another from another store"

Then why the hell did you buy it? And if you're going to go to another store.. WHY would that store want to refund you so that you could go spend your money somewhere else.

Sorry to say i don't think you will get much sympathy on here.

The only anodized color they make now is the grey. I think they may have a silver/red paint combo too. If you got the anodized grey, stick with it. It's not the nicest color in the world (I have the older black anodized Team Soloist, which I really like), but the anodized finish is really tough. I've subjected my frame to abuses that would have left a paint finish badly marked up, but the anodized finish is really tough!

how many times do i have to say i made a mistake? and how about for the simple reason that i'm not satisfied with my purchase

my lbs told me the anodized grey was a trickle down from 2007 and they only make the silver/red one now (which i own)

in any case. i'm going to go talk to the lbs and see what can be done
thanks for all your help

They would be ultra nice if they took the bike back but most LBS consider the bike used when you agree to buy the bike and take it home. Therefore, there's a no return policy. I can see there point, because if I was paying for a new bike, even though it was never ridden outside the shop, I wouldn't want a bike someone else bought and took home, then returned. Paying alot of money for a bike, or even if you're not, you want something off the shelf new. Good luck though.

Like others have said, the bike store would probably lose alot of money accepting back a used bike.

I certainly wouldn't part with that much money if the bike I got had already been used and returned.

"getting another from another store"

Thats why right there. You are going to take them back stock and have them give you back the profit from the sale.

Thats why.

Yea, its pretty crappy but Mr. Capitalism LBS owner dont think so.

Buy it on Ebay for half.

I hear ya. I can't stand the color of my bike either. But I have no choice. There's no paint!! To be honest with you, I couldn't afford to paint it for I went over my budget already! I'm looking for colored decals to put on it though. That may help.

I don't think they would return it for the reasons stated. Perhaps you can do things to it to customize the look to make it your own doing?

If you paid cash you can go to small claims court. If you paid credit threaten to reverse charges. Otherwise you are better off as the bike will be damaged and even stolen over time. Having a color you did not like to begin with will help you make the transition.

They have to take the bike back, I thought. PA has a thirty day return policy. If you return an auto you only pay mileage/depreciation.

I've never heard of a bike store taking a bike back, but if your very unhappy and tell them, they might be able to make an exception to try and keep you happy as a customer. They would take a hit though.

Sounds to me like an LBS that does not want any more of your business nor the business of any of your friends.

It's a bunch of bunk that it becomes a used bike after it is sold. They could easily exchange it for another. Who's to know? When the bike is on a test ride, it is just as much out of their hands as it would be if you took it home. OK it is out of their sight a little longer than the average test ride but a halfway decent inspection should show any problems that you created.

well lbs wouldnt give me a money refund, they say'll they're willing to make an exchange for another bike

which doesnt make much sense to me regarding some of your comments since they're still getting a "used" bike back. the owner was fairly nice and checked cervelo's stocklist for me but all they're making anymore is the silver/red
but in any case. i'll just live with it and go ride my still awesome bike

+1 The black and silver are paint finishes which aren't as hardy as the anodized grey.

I agree with you partially, but the "who's to know" part, that wouldn't be doing good business. If the bike was sold and taken home by someone, only to be returned later, I would want to know.

I would expect a shop that did accept a return to charge a considerable restocking fee, and if I bought a returned bike, I would expect to pay an adjusted price, not the normal full price. For that matter, I would really hesitate to buy a pre-owned carbon or aluminum bike, no matter how pretty.

Another thing to consider is the warranty situation. If the warranty only applies to the original owner, then selling a pre-owned bike as new would be fraudulent.

Looks like you are just going to have to get over it. If I were running the shop, I wouldn't consider 'wrong color' a legit reason to bring it back, either. bk
