Sister Got The Hook-Up!

Today I finished a little mini-project that my sister asked me to do for her just two days ago.

She texted me the other day, saying her hubby -- recent heart troubles, needs lifestyle changes -- needs new grips for the bike he almost never rides (but will soon ride a LOT more!), and she needs a bike! Her purpose, of course, is to accompany him, monitor him, and make a few changes herself. They & the kids live with me, and I'm the car-free one of the bunch; they're feeling the pinch, especially since he has to have all this new medication.

I happened to have nearly all the parts to build up another bike; had to come up with a rear brake cable and a presta/schraeder adapter, and the stem I picked for her had stripped threads in the faceplate mount.

Headset was already in the frame, as was the crank; it wasn't until I'd mounted up the fork that I found out about the strippage in the stem, so that interrupted me for a bit. Wheels had been given to me, but I don't ride V-brakes. Skinny, urban-type tires were hanging up, waiting to be used.

Put it all together, adjusted, and was all set to help her fit it; she snuck out the back door, grabbed it, adjusted the seat height herself, and took off! When she came back, eyes lit up, I knew it was on for her.

Sorry, no pix, but she's riding my old 20" Weyless SP with Specialized wheels, Tektro brakes, and X.7! I never planned to ride that beast again anyway, so I told her it was all hers.

Best bike she's EVER owned.

Can't help it -- got a soft spot for the fam....

Update: since the Weyless fit ME, and HE is my height, they have decided to switch bikes, so she'll be riding the Schwinn, and he'll be riding the ABSOLUTE BEST bike HE'S ever owned.

We're also looking at forks, so he can upgrade to front discs....

I fixed up a bike for my sister last month. It feels good to do that

(now I am itching to drag her out riding! But I don't want ot scare her to death!)

Hmm, I should go work on the mountain bike for The Boy too.
