Pocono Mountains to Rehoboth Delaware

I am going to ride to Cape Henlopen State Park in Rehoboth Beach Delaware from the Pocono Mountains in late September. The only thing I am sure of is, I will be taking the ferry from Cape May to Lewis. I really need help planning a route. I have tried Google and Map quest but I cannot figure out if the route is safe.
Any help and ideas would be wonderful! Hope to hear from someone soon.

Not sure why you would go into New Jersey from the Poconos. It would be more direct to head south when you get to Blue Bell, PA into Delaware. You can pick up roads around Route 1 in PA, which will take you down to Chadds Ford, PA. Then you can take Route 100, then Route 141 to Route 13. That will take you all the way to Dover, Delaware. From there it's Route 1 all the way to Rehoboth, Delaware and Cape Henlopen. I'm sitting not more than 200 yards from the entrance to Cape Henlopen, in the community of North Shores.

Of course you will want to choose more scenic routes that will parallel the routes I gave you. I wouldn't go into New Jersey, unless you have some compelling reason.

^^^ what fosters said

What you want to do is take the ferry from Lewes to Cape May after your trip.
Go parallel, stay offa 13. I Spend A LOT of time in slower lower DE and the major roads (1, 113, and 13) are no place for bicycles.

Hello!
Thanks for replying. I may be towing my beagle "Bailey" with me but not sure yet. He can run for about 7 miles and then he likes to ride in his carriage. It depends on how he does with our training rides.

I am only a few miles from the Delaware Water Gap so, I was thinking of going 611 to 46s to 31s. Directly south from there. But, I just don't know how to get around the traffic. I would like to go on the Cape May Ferry. It sounds like you would recommend another route, and tonight I will definitely look into it. Any ideas would help a lot!

Thanks again
Joan
