Anyone Have *Casual* Biking Friends?

This is the random bike-related story thread, right?

So a friend and I decide to ride up to a free concert which is about 5-6 miles away. We meet up and I see he's borrowed a friends bike and the cable is -- seriously-- smaller than the width of my little finger. Its a nice looking Schwinn Cruiser, maybe a couple of years old. I'm thinking, wow, if somebody wanted that bike, somebody could snap that with a butter knife. But, I didn't mention it. I figured it was his problem to deal with.

Anyway, we get alllll the way up there and he tells me, well, "I can't figure out how to work this lock, you think we can lock these up together?" Now, I guess he thought all ULocks were as long as those OnGuard to loop through two bikes. But I didn't have that.

I didn't think it would work, but I managed. But I thought, this sure is a helluva time to tell me you don't have a lock. And I sure didn't wanna compromise the safety of my bike by trying to jimmyrig some sorta dual bike locking system. Anybody have awkward situations like this? What would you have done? What would have happened if I had a mini?

Locked the bikes to a rack together if possible, if not he'd have had to fend for himself.

I usually have a cable that I can loop through my wheels into my U-Lock and if I'm with someone else I can usually loop it through some part of their bike as well. Works for me.

You're going to a concert together. I can't see a problem with locking the bikes together, provided you can make it work with a u lock. He just has to leave the same time as you do, or there will be one unlocked bike out there.

Usually if somebody dosen't have a lock they get to pray the bike dosen't get stolen. unless i have both of my locks, then i'll think about lending them the crappier one.

one time i was biking w/ a few people, and one person had a big lock, and before i knew it all the bikes were locked up with it, and in that case that was fine.
