Ride For The Cure

RBR users seem to be a benevolent bunch, so I'm writing on behalf of two exceptional friends involved with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRP).

Jeff and Eve Goodnow have been involved with raising money to cure diabetes through the JDRF for the past five years. The JDRF is the world’s leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 juvenile diabetes research. Both Jeff and Eve have raised over 40,000 dollars while participating in the JDRF's annual 'Walk For A Cure'. This year, Eve's decided to challenge herself by riding in JDRF's 'Ride To Cure Diabetes' (http://ride.jdrf.org/). in Whitefish Montana, 9/11 through 9/13. This is a one day, 100 mile ride in which riders from all over the world take on two challenges; raising the critical money needed to fund research that will cure diabetes, and reaching personal training goals that will prepare them for their destination cycling experience. Participants spend the weeks before 'The Ride' working with Cycling Certified Coaches to reach their goals.

Eve's highly motivated, but she's training on 16 year old 40+ pound mountain bike; not conducive for completing a century in two days, let alone one.

Because of the work Eve and Jeff have done and the money they have raised over the last four years, Eve deserves to ride something decent. I'm talking to various companies, dealers, suppliers, etc. and everyone has been understanding but I still do not have a bike or a frame/fork in hand. I took on this responsibility because I'm a friend and I believe in what they're doing (I also have relatives/friends with diabetes) As my contribution to the cause, I'm purchasing/building a bike for Eve to complete her century. Eve is 5'4" with a 30" inseam. She would probably take a size 49 or there abouts, with a 51 top tube.

When Eve and Jeff took on the Whitefish ride back in May, they didn't realize their financial responsibly would be so great. It's costing between 3 and 4000 dollars of their own money just to get there and back. I'm trying to take the bike out of the equation so they can concentrate on their sponsors.

Does anyone have a road bike, frame, or components that they're willing to either donate or sell for less, for this very good cause? I need to get a complete bike to her no later than 8/15 as she will need time to train on it before her trip to Whitefish. We're in the NYC area.

There are friends and family sponsoring Eve to complete her ride of a lifetime (go to http://ride.jdrf.org/index.cfm click 'donate' and enter the name 'Eve Goodnow' to see how much the Goodnow's have raised so far). Anything you can do to help would mean a great deal to Eve, myself and the hundreds of friends who support her.

Thank you so much,

Jeff Bowman
