I was looking on Craig's List for bicycles. I have a new bike. (I just wanted to see what people are selling because I am contemplating getting rid of my 12 year old Schwinn Bike.) I noticed there are a lot of people who are asking for help in finding their bikes that were stolen out of their garage. My SIL even had her brand new Schwinn stolen out of their open garage . They were in the back yard raking

We always make sure our garage doors are shut when we are not in the garage (grilling in the back yard, mowing the lawn, etc). Just a reminder . . do not leave that garage door open if you are not there to guard your garage! It only takes a second for that bike to get stolen!

Go ahead and put that U-lock on it while it's parked, there, too. If you can't lock it to anything, at least they can't ride it off.

My buddy lost 2 nice Diamondbacks out of his garage 3 years apart. He always lived in decent nieghborhoods so he didn't have his paranoia working. One was probably snagged by his stepkid's friends, the other by a dipstick teenager. He currently lives in a gated community, but that didn't mean diddly to the thief. Left his garage open.

I lock my bikes down, even in my place of residence. Even a cable lock will prevent a quick smash and grab of valuable stuff.

I leave my garage open all the time and I have the perfect anti theft device when it comes to keeping my bikes safe, my yellow lab. When ever the garage is open he lays in there to get out of the sun and cool off on the concrete floor. If he does not recognize someone and they approach the yard he will go nuts barking and growling at them. He looks very ferocious especially if you are not familiar with him.
