Get Rid of the Ad-Bot

I really dislike the ad-bot. We're subjected to enough unncessary advertisements all the time in the real world, as it is. Is it really necessary to be subject to the ad-bot in the bike forums environment as well???? Please, please, please remove this unnecessary intrusion ASAP!!!

pitboss 02-03-04 09:53 PM

Two choices here:
1. Pay $25 and make them disappear
2. Make friends with Ad-Bot

oh...or
3. go away (but we like you...I guess)

Not a very friendly message...I MIGHT just go away...I'll consider donating when all the right-wing jerks are purged from the politics and religion forum, and not a moment sooner!

My expected costs for the forums for 2004? $4,238.75

If I could afford to pay the mod's minimum wage for the time they put into the forums i am sure that figure would quadruple.

As of right now, I am looking to make $22.00 for the month of Jan off the ads. (woohoo!)

Sorry, the ads are here to stay.

I appreciate your concerns about cost; but is it really worth $22 per month to subject us to / Abuse us with the Ad-bot??? That's $264 per year, about 5% of your costs. Like I said, get rid of the right-wing morons, get rid of the ad-bot, then maybe I'll consider donating; otherwise, no deal...

iamlucky13 02-03-04 11:46 PM

At that rate, the adbot cuts about $250 from the annual operating cost. without being quite as annoying as banners and FAR less annoying than pop-ups. I'm not a fan of it either, but a lot more than just Joe's time goes into this site. Plus the joke is on the advertisers anyway. They pay Joe to show me an ad that I completely ignore. :D

As for politics and religion, disagreement is the nature of the topic. That's why you have to request access. No way around it until you've converted everybody to your point of view. I'm still working on that one.

TriDevil 02-03-04 11:49 PM

Let's see, put up some ads that a few people dislike and most ignore or are used to it, or spend thousands of dollars because one guy really really doesn't like them? Boo Hoo, deal with it. Donating shouldn't be a political ploy on your part, it should be about supporting a site you enjoy and can gather information from. Here's an idea, Joe can get rid of the ads just as soon as people start paying for all of the information/mechanical help/shopping tips that they get here. You can sign up first.

"when all the right-wing jerks are purged from the politics and religion forum"

Hey..I know how to do that! we need a funnel, some garden hose, vinyl gloves and several gallons of warm water with 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 2 tablespoons of olive oil.....oops, I misread-

"purged FROM the forum" Oh well, my way might make 'em nicer. ;)

roadfix 02-04-04 12:10 AM

Are libs always this upset?

Bad wording on my part. After the operating costs, I am on the way to pocketing $22 for the month of January. Some months require a bit more money out of my pocket, some months add a few bucks to my acct. In the long run, ads and donating members now cover the cost of running this site. Nice to know, after 4 years of paying for the site out of my pocket.

I wish it was that way. I get paid per click... I kind of hope that those who really enjoy the site, and thing they get more then $25 worth of information from the site will donate. As one member said "It's better then a magazine subscription!" :)

Big R 02-04-04 07:03 AM

Randya,

I think this is a terrific forum, and frankly I never noticed that there were a bunch of right wing nuts in the politics/religion forum because I've never been there. I think of this as a cycling forum that is well worth the modest support I've given it.

Perhaps you will join me in supporting the forum and ignoring those areas with which you don't agree and are off topic. There are plenty of excellent and free political/religious forums for you to exercise that portion of your brain.

Personally, I find it easier to ignore the politics and religion forum than the Ad Bots.

I'm not. Big deal with some ads. It's not as bad as the ones on television...THEY yell at you.

froze 02-04-04 08:11 AM

I don't mind them. In fact once I actually went to some of the websites they mentioned to look up some information. So they can stay. If you don't like it just scan past it-BIG DEAL! At least they don't pop up everytime you entered a forum, if that would occur that may irritate me enough to leave the forum!

Ebbtide 02-04-04 08:36 AM

Lets see if i got this straight, you get something for free, then complain its not enough. Some of your "right wing" enemies would say this is typical liberal behavior.

Joe, I am grateful you provide this free service to the cycling community. This site as been a great help in keeping me motivated and "in the know". I'll click on more ads now that I know how you pay for this.

shokhead 02-04-04 08:43 AM

See ya. The ad isnt a big deal. If you leave because of that then you might as well stay off the internet.

cycletourist 02-04-04 09:07 AM

I like the ad bot and her pretty blue G,
she gives me links to things I want to see :-)

I hate to burst you bubble, but I have been private messaging Ad-bot, and he is a guy. But he does go both ways, if thats your thing :D

Zeltar 02-04-04 12:03 PM

Pay per click????

You should put and Ad-Bot sticky somewhere for us users that have donated and then when we feel like donating some more we can visit the Ad-bot and do some clicking...... :D

I agree there is waaaaay more that $25 worth of information here. As others have said, you dont have to visit this site, it is NOT mandatory you visit.

lotek 02-04-04 02:31 PM

If you don't like the right wingers in the politics and
religion forum stay out of there. If they did leave
it would get awful boring with all those liberal yuppie
types agreeing with everything posted, no? :D
Is this site worth $25 per year to you? thats what $2.08
a month, or $.068 per day?
Not worth it? learn to ignore the ad-bot. There are other
options but I would never suggest that.

The above is the expressed opinion of the author and is in no way is the official opinion of BikeForums, The
administrator, or of any other moderator.
