That really stinks. I read in paper tonight that a family around here got all their Christmas presents stolen. What kind of people would do these things I can't imagine. I always think that they must lead very pathetic, unhappy lives. So they get their punishment every day of their lives. Sorry for your loss.

You rode a $1000.00 bicycle to your high school?
|
Actually, the 2 weeks just before christmas is the busiest time for theft. Why would you think otherwise? Some crack junky has $$ for presents now.

A friend of mine had his Trek Carbon road bike stolen. He waited about 2 weeks than put an ad in the newspaper looking to buy one. Maybe he's got luck but the theif tried to sell him his bike back.
Something to think about!:crash: |

If it's any consolation, the crack head who stole them will probably overdose himself to death eventually anyway. Sometimes justice can take a while to work.

ok, first i this useually is a peiceful neibor hood, a bike hasn't been stolen for about 4 months, and also there is a large window right infront of the bike racks, and they n/ seen it happen...

I don't think it's terribly bright to take a snazzy road bike to school, but then again, there are kids who drive their parents Lexus' and Mercedes to school. It's just that bikes are easier to steal.
Years ago, my own bike was stolen from the garage of our apartment building. It wasn't a really high-end bike but I'd saved up to buy it and so it was devastating. What puzzled me was that there were better bikes there for stealing- including a Peugeot with a not-too-good lock. Why the ^%&(&&^% stole mine, I'll never know. |

Something I always do every time I clean my bike is too leave just a little dirt on the frame. It makes my bike look slightly older to the untrained eye than it actually is. |
Every serious cyclist needs a beater bike for general transportation. It can even be pretty decent (both of mine are), as long as it looks like @#^&% and didn't cost you too much to buy (used, of course).
What have I lost to theft in the past? A yard sale Sears [Huffy] Free Spirit boat anchor with a market value of about $10. Lesson: use a beater wherever security is an issue, but be prepared to lose it eventually. I have proof that they'll steal anything! |
Yeah, a friend of mine has an old bike that he rides around. He has ridden it and left it unlocked in areas where people have been mugged for $2 (no kidding!). He hasn't lost it yet.
