Ok what would you do??

Ok here's my story. Started biking about 4 years ago. Had mostly yard sale or k-mart bikes. Wife took me to the local bike store july 2007 for my birthday bought me a 330 dollar bike from a guy. After a few days took it back. Had some noise in the crank. Always a loud popping sound on hills under a load. He told me bike was ok just to ride. In one year I rode that bike pretty hard and it seem the crank always got loose and made noise. Once when my wife and I went to another place to ride another bike shop told me the bike had a lot of miles and needed a new chain. other bikes shops told me a new crank.

Finally it got so bad I took it to another bike shop. He revealed to me that the bike had it. The crank had been running crooked. Because the factory misinstalled bearing crooked .Now it stripped the threads out on the frames. Hell my 8 year old grandson could have pounded that in better

The bikes warranty states it has a lifetime but I was told that they are out of frames . So in the meantime I had no bike to ride so I had to buy a bike out of my own pocket and the company still hasn't contacted me. The last contact I had they told me it could take another six weeks before a decision is made.

I won't say the name of the company yet but does anyone think I got a chance to get another bike or some money out of this deal???. My wife keeps telling me to be patient but I waited almost a month and they still haven't even contacted me yet. Seems if they didn't have a frame take care of the customer and give him a better bike or the money at least. Sorry for the rant.......x

This sounds like the bike shops fault. Sounds like another slap together job where they dont remove the bottom bracket and grease the threads.

This happens fairly often as giant (who makes bikes for a lot of companies) has a big machine that threads in BB with lots of downwards force so cross threading is not uncommon.

I would say it is a coin toss at this point and it will really ride on your dealers relationship with his rep more than anything else.

I can never remember where I keep my receipts and warranty stuff anyway. So I generally don't count on em. And I weigh buying stuff on the assumption of no warranty even if there is one...

So in the same situation, I'd probably just be kicking myself for not doing something about the weird noise earlier on. I always take stuff apart anyway(and void warranties) to do modifications, so I probably could figured out the problem and fixed it early on.
So to answer the question of what I'd do:
I'd say 'whoops', then shrug and head down to the local Bike Co-op; spend 150$ putting together a bike from used parts. Happily ride off knowing that my new bike is custom to my taste, well put together, and cheaper than that old lemon from the shop... I'd be so happy with my new wheels I'd totally forget about the mess with that other bike; time to ride.

I got the warranty and the reciept but they tell me cause they have no frames in stock I'm out of luck. Seems they should take care of the customer. That's ok I'll never buy another MONGOOSE BIKE again cause they didn't put it together right in the first place. had to rant sorry

At least the bike shop that sold it to me won't get anymore of my business

I;ve got a new bike shop now I have to drive five hours round trip but at least they know bikes

1. $330 for a bicycle is a cheap bicycle.

2. Lifetime warrenties are a laugh.

3. If you still like the frame, just put a new drivetrain on it.

Lifetime warranty = never expect a quick resolution.

Grandpa, u should know by now... as much as a corporation says they CARE about u, ur are the most IMPORTANT call please hold... unless u make a big fuss with your local TV consumer affair guy, you are just a statistic in the company's business model. Reality.

Really? And what do you base this on? My shop has sold more than 10,000 Giant bikes and I have yet to see one with a misthreaded BB. Sometimes they have not been torqued properly, but never crooked. I have only ever seen a couple of misthreaded BBs and a handful that were threaded backwards, from any builder. That is over twenty years.
