Hi there, referring to the header; I ride every evening; dressed in bibs, undershirt and sweat shirt.
As the darkness comes in earlier it also brings in some extra cold. What can you advise to wear to keep the throat warm as I don't want to catch a cold. I mean, should I bring a scarf? Actually when riding I am far from getting cold, but as I am a bit scary of bronchitus/coughing and so on - I'd better take advantage of any helpful hints you may have.

If you find that you get respiratory irritations from breathing cold air, you could try some kind of scarf that covers your mouth and nose.

'The cold', of course, is a virus and can't be caught from just being cold.

Remember that being overheated when you're riding in chilly weather can be worse than the alternative -- if you're sweating a lot you can cool off too quickly. If you don't feel cold when riding, don't bundle up.

Extremely cold air irritates my throat too, but I find that covering my mouth and nose leads to annoying condensation on the inside For me anyway, the irritated throat is the lesser of two evils.

I wear a scarf on top of a thin balaclava in cold weather, a scarf made of a stretchy spandex/polyester mix. It's easy to tighten or loosen while riding.

Get cheap hat, cut off the top so it leaves a ring. Use around throat. That's what I do during winter and it works great.

I think he means, try not to over dress.

You should expect that your body will generate excess heat as you ride, even in the winter, so even if you are comfortable when you first start riding, you will become hot and sweaty before too long. If you dress appropriately though with not too much clothing, you'll be cold at the beginning of your ride, but you'll be comfortable for the rest of it.

One thing that's great about riding in the cold is that you can more easily regulate your body's temperature by adding or removing clothing. With a little experience you'll figure out what works best for you.

Is "bundle up" an American/Canadian idiom? In case it is and some people aren't familiar with it, it just means to dress warmly.

So true. I can't believe the number of people that believe you get "colds" from being cold. I also saw someone turn off a fan in a health club saying he didn't watch to "catch pneumonia!"

If you get colds from being cold, people would get sick from swimming in cold water on 90 degree days.

The important thing about exercising in cold temps is the humdity is usually very dry and you need to take in enough fluids.
