Heartbreak Hill is really pretty short - but QUITE steep. About 50% made it without pushing their bike. I did not. I walked up with a local who was extremely disgusted with himself. He had made it in practice the week before, but did not the day of the century!!

We also had groups called "Team Leukemia" riding. One was from San Diego. They practice and practice and must get pledges to support Leukemia survivors. They raise a LOT of money. They are really a team. If one person has a flat, the WHOLE group stops. If people have to walk up Heartbreak Hill, they all wait at the top.

It is a wonderful ride. Only about 1,500 riders, which, spread out over the distance, leaves a LOT of room between riders.

No, not much water in this part of New Mexico. The century follows a portion of the Turquoise Trail - turquoise mines.

Definately agree, it is beautiful country. I was there as well over the summer and really enjoyed the scenery, it's quite hot though! Here's a few I can contribute, these came from the Canyon De Chelley area.

We should get ourselves [en masse] sposored for a BikeForums Century on the same roads. What's the weather like in New Mexico at this time of year?

I believe Santa Fe is at 7,000 feet. Brrr!! Weather.com states 18 degrees F. today.

Wait until May and go as a team within the SFC!!

Southern NM a different story!!

DF and seer, awesome pictures <drool>.
Reminds me of the great scenery I saw when I was a kid and lived out west.

Looks like a great ride. When does this particular century take place ? I would like to do another century this year and will be in New Mexico some time this summer. It would be a great one to ride. Denver...ever been down to Fort Collins Co ? That is where I live and want to know if Heartbreak hill compares to Horsetooth or Carter Lake down my way ?

Late May - www.santafecentury.com

Yes, I get to FC, but not for along time, and a longer time to Horsetooth and Carter. Heartbreak Hill would be easy on a mtn bike with low gearing. Many can do it. If not, it is a lovely walk!!
