Group ride question
How do you find a group that fits your riding skills, and offers more than just a "beer run" ride? Not saying an occasional beer run isn't healthy. I'm to a point in my riding where finding a group to ride with would improve my riding even more. There hasn't been a desire in the past to participate in the group rides, cause I've felt like a fat guy going to the health club to get fit. Now, I'm more skilled, I have some miles under my belt, it's taken some time. And mostly I have a desire to continue to improve my skills on the bike, so I am looking to the idea of finding a group to ride with, and after commuting all winter, I'm hungry to see what I can do in a group, and can even imagine racing. I can't do it alone, need the skills of a group of riders.
How do I find that group? |
look online to see if their are any groups in your area.. also check with your LBS... sometimes they run riding groups out of the store, or can point you in thr right direction

I don't know how long of rides you are looking to do, but I live in minneapolis, and I am always up for a new riding partner... Perhaps we could get a posse going? Do some single speed "marathons".
I did the St. Paul classic last fall on my single speed with a 46/18 ratio, and was leading the pack most of the time. I think for the 31 miles ride, I finished in 1 hour 26 min or something like that, average was over 21mph, decent considering there was some hills to contend with... I do think the twin cities is a good place for cycling, lots of trails all over the place... |
Always up for riding. Last year I hooked up with a guy in Stillwater and we did a century to North Fork. Another fun ride is Red Wing, some awesome hills, still have some wind to contend with. My run out to St. Boni was a blast on my Fixie, riding the Luce Line.

I contacted my LBS and Let them know that I wanted like minded riders to join. Several of us now ride together on a regular basis, and we have several summer riders that come occasionally. Another group was started by our LBS by advertising a ride for a certain fitness of rider, and the ride would be on a Sunday morning, starting at 9 AM. This group has turned into an "Elite riders" group, but they are now out riding on a regular basis again.
