New year resolutions?
What is your cycling new years resolution?
I have three: 1) Ride 3500 miles in 2002. Just under 10 miles a day, something i know i can do :) 2) Become car free. Im looking to get my own place in the city, closer to work and school. I don't see the point to owning my truck in the city, I rarely use it now. :) 3) Make BikeForums.net the premier online cycling community. For every mile I ride, I would like one new member (3500 new members in 2002!) |
1) 11,000 km in 2002
2) In sprints, crush my friends like the insects they are.:D 3) Race a duathlon. 4) Race cyclocross. 5) Try not to get so uptight about training. |
originally posted by Joe, our leader! get my own place in the city 1. Ride at least 4000 miles. 2. Don't become the "old man who gets fat in winter". 3. Be more thankful for what I have and simply enjoy life. Make BikeForums.net the premier online cycling community. |
I have never really been into making resolutions, but I will make one that I would like to achieve on my bike. 2001 I rode about 2100 miles; 2002 I would like to ride over 3000. I've canceled my insurance on my car, so I have to commute to work everyday. I really should sell it, but I don't think anyone would buy the piece of crap. I have been commuting for over a year, but I was driving in the morning and riding in the afternoon for 7 months of 2001. I think the additional time on the bike will give me an extra 900 miles without really even trying.
|
Not so many bloody crashes this year! I'd also like to finally make it to Tasmania (the place I wanted to tour last year but the money ran out). I think that's pretty much it for me.
|
I resolve that this new year will bring good things. If I look for them, I will see them; if I don't look for them, I will miss them.
 |
My only resolution is to pull of two or three wins during velodrome season. Sprint train, sprint train, sprint train...
Otherwise, it would be a really cool thing to ride RAGBRAI this year. I'm currently broaching the subject with Mrs. Oscar. Flowers, flowers, flowers...dishes, dishes, dishes...laundry, laundry,laundry... |
1. Ride at least 5000 miles (I'll be moving to enjoy a 20-mile round-trip work commute, so that shouldn't be a problem).
2. Do a century. 3. Drink more beer, wine, and fine spirits. 4. Work more on my German, and spend a week or two in Deutschland if possible. 5. Read half of "Goedel, Escher, Bach". 6. Continue with my tradition of never walking up a hill; if I have a bike, why the hell should I need to walk? 7. More sex this year. Not at the same time as items 1, 2, or 3. Preferably at the same time as item 8. 8. Continue to promote cycling like a bastard. |
1. Get a new bike
2. Ride a hell of a lot more than last year 3. Jump off some 7' cement walls......o yeeeeeeea |

1. Get a job (unemployed for 14 months).
2. Get a job I can bicycle commute to. 3. Do three double centuries to earn the California Triple Crown. |
1. Get some physical activity every day (biking or fitness walking)
2. Start bike commuting (after 2 years of "getting ready") Kevin S. |
One of my cycling resolutions is to make sure I buy some shorter shorts so I don't get a tan that makes me look stupid in a miniskirt.
|
Start cycling home as well as in.
Lose some weight (see above :D). Richard |
1. Ride at least 3000 miles this year. I missed it by a bunch this year but I've done it before so I know I can.
2. Ride a BIG ride of some sort. Cross state or to another state from my home. Have to find a buddy to do this with or my spouse will worry incessantly. 3. Hope to visit my son in Italy (he's studying to be a chef over there for a year) and ride in the mountains and valleys. 4. Stay employed and continue to commute to work as much as possible. |
1) Ride at least 3000 miles but hopefully closer to 4000
2) Join a club 3) Start racing 4) Get a second job this summer so I can get a new bike. -Matt- |
Finish building my recumbent.
|
1. Get in shape enough to start commuting to work by bicycle.
2. Start riding the bus and avoiding my car as much as possible until I reach my first resolution. 3. Get involved with the local bike club. |
(1) Buy a bike.
(2) Learn how to ride it. You all make it sound like so much fun!. (3) And, the shorter shorts for the mini skirt tan line thing. |
1. Get bike I ordered for myself for Christmas.
2. Ride said bike at least 2002 miles in 2002. 3. Run at least 2002 miles in 2002. 4. Compete (I use that term very loosely) in the Georgia Triathlon series and the Dannon Duathlon this year. 5. Learn to swim well enough not to drown getting to the bike transition. PH :D |
I've been thinking about overcoming my habit of procrastinating any decision or deed until the very last minute when it becomes imperative to make said decision or experience a social, emotional and/or financial meltdown that would prohibit personal comforts or freedoms; but you know such a decision takes an extreme amount of commitment and dedication to be successful that I think I'll wait a few more days to see if I really and truly and honestly want to undertake such a concerted effort in subjecting myself to that kind of disciplined existence.
However, I applaude each and everyone of you whom have made resolute resolutions so resolutly. I'm enviously envious of you all for having the temerity to aver with such conviction your avowed goals for the new year. Maybe I'll be able to join you by dedicating myself to cease procrastinating, but I think I'd better mull it over for awhile. Perhaps if I slept on it... |

I might have a crack at riding 300km in a day this year.

I'm just going to try and get in some form of exercise every day if possible and not worry about it when it's impossible.
I've got a longer commute this year after moving in the fall, so I want to do that as often as I can. Well, so far, I've skiied every day this year!:D |
