need an answer. . . relatively fast

hey, i'm making my first big bike trip, my plan is to leave from atlanta, and head to alabama in one day using the silver comet trail, my questions: is this doable on a road bike, and i do mean ROAD bike, 700c/23 some of the trail parts are dirt . . . how smooth? anybody know? i saw a youtube of people who rode the whole thing for the grand opening, and it looked like they were running the same tires.

my other question, is i'm seeing a break in the trail at rockmart. . . is this just not updated on google? am i going to have to plan out the route more? when they say 61 miles of paved trail . . . this is with NO BREAKS right??

i wish i had more experience on the trail, but i just want to take this trip for fall break, any help you can give would be greatly appreciated ^^;

I would bump to the biggest tires that would fit, 25s or 28s. You can always pump them to the max for less rolling resistance and they will have way more cush and pinch protection than the 23s.
All that said, my boss rides crushed rock in the local park on 23s with out a flat so far.

hmm, found my real problem, the trail IS complete, but part of it is in VERY close proximity to old railroad tracks, google resolution in the area wasn't good enough to see it unless you're looking for it

as for the rocky parts of the trail, i believe only a 2 mile stretch is "off limits" to bikes, and i can walk this section if i must, may take the pressure off the tires anyway : )

the rest appears paved from all the pictures i've found and descriptions on their website

wish your boss good luck that's only a matter of time, unless he has gatorskins or armadillos or something similar like that, bumpy ride though

I thought it was all paved now. There was an official grand opening/completion ceremony a couple of weekends ago over on the alabama side. 90 plus miles of Rails to Trails MUP is good stuff! For those not familiar https://www.traillink.com/TrailSearch...t=ALL&ct=&sp=N The bama side (33 miles) is the Chief Ladiga Trail https://www.traillink.com/ViewTrail.aspx?AcctID=6031399 when you cross into Georgia it becomes the Silver Comet Trail https://www.traillink.com/ViewTrail.aspx?AcctID=6032076 (61.5 miles)

it's going to be SUCH a fun ride!!!

this is the stretch i was talking about
https://www.silvercometga.com/silver-...age-park.shtml
from the newer pics it does indeed looked to be paved, why they say this particular section is a walking trail . . . who knows, RIDE ON!

kinda excited to hit some of the little historic towns as well
and silver comet depot bike shop : )

That is going to be a great ride! I am envious ... I plan to make the journey myself, but it is beginning to look like next spring. Good Luck and Enjoy!
