Back to work

Wel... I have to go back to work today. The new semester has started and I have a whole new cohort of young minds to mold. [Actually, it is technically the same cohort as last semester, only these are the ones who didn't take may classes in the fall... you following this?]

I really don't want to go to work. It's not that I have a lot of cycling to do, and I know the semester ends in mid-April, just in time for the season [and I only teach one course in the summer, so I'll have a lot of time then]... I just feel cheated out of a holiday. I got sick with a bad cold this Xmas, and I never really got a chance to chill. [Ironic, that...]

I think I definitely need some time off, cycling in the Costa Blanca. Opinions?

What subjects and grade levels do you teach? Several members of this board are full-time or (in my case) part-time pedagogues.

University journalism. This semester, I'm teaching Computer-Assisted Reporting and New Media Journalism. I also coordinate and supervise all of our digital media assets except those in the broadcast section.

I hate to inject a note of jocularity into this thread, but, Velocepedio, isn't proof reading part of the Journalism curicula?:D

Sure... but that's in the copy-editing course. I don't teach that one. :)

[Yes, I know my typing sucks... it's not like I'm getting PAID to do this.]

Those 185 day teaching contracts are so rough. Cycle on.
(even though i'm on 230 days at less money at 7 hours a day I wouldn't consider working for a private company again)

Velocipedio, I forgive you your typing transgressions, but I disagree with you about getting paid for doing this. We ALL are being paid through comaraderie and useful information received.

Are you at McGill? I've spent many hours wandering about the campus, especially the bookstore.

My heart bleeds.

BTW. I'm getting paid for this ;)

Have you ever noticed that work is a four letter word?

I tell you Vel, I've never worked so hard as I have in the last couple of months......studying and being a student!

After 26 years in the Military I've gone back to university and have tackled a full load of classes. I go to class, try to keep up taking notes from the profs' lectures, go home, o over my notes (with the aid of my recorder), read....read.... read.....then review. Go to bed late, toss and turn with all this new info in my head then get up early and do it again.

It's paying off, but I'm all work and no play from break to break! This holiday break gave me a full month off (from school), I spent most of it working around the house getting caught up in needed areas and accomplishing many other "honey-dos".

Our semister begins on the 14th, unfortunately I miss the first week....going to be in Hawaii then on an aircraft carrier crossing the Pacific..... This will be a great experience, but it sure is going to hurt on my return to classes! :(

I don't know about Costa Blanca, but here in South Queensland, they're expecting 40 deg C tomorrow. I'll gladly change places with you.

Good to have you back, my hairy friend!

I would change places with you in a heartbeat. I would do anything to go for a ride. However, I would wake up at 4:00 am and ride from 5:00-9:00 am to avoid the heat and then find an air conditioned movie theatre in which to spend the rest of the day.
