Is this a real Shimano product or imitation ?

Hi,

I'm about to buy a used bike but I noticed something strange. The bike is a Giant TCR1 that is mounted with Shimano Ultegra. (link to TCR Specs)
But when I look at the brake, they didn't have any Shimano Ultegra logo but they really look like shimano product . same finish .
Usually you can see the Shimano logo and the model name print on the brake.

Are these counterfeit brakes ?

But I cannot believe tht Giant use fake Shimano Ultegra ?!

Thanks

It's quite possible that they were out of the Ultegra levers when they put that bike together at the factory. Sometimes components are swapped around depending on availability. But this is odd as the Ultegra group is a BIG name. I'd ask your LBS and see what they have to say.

Good luck.

Somewhere in the actual brochure for the bike it will say in small teeny tiny letters that the components could be subject to change.

When I ordered my bike I wanted a 105 crankset. We waited for quite a while but found out that 105 for that production year (2007) had ceased and that if I wanted it I could wait another six months or downgrade upgrade. I ended up upgrading.

So yes, it could have been swapped out.

Tell your dealer you're not interested in the bike unless they are shimano calipers. Depending on how bad they want your business they may swap them out for you.

It says this: All specifications listed are subject to change without notice.

Right on the page you link to. The above is a copied quote from that page.

Giant is the biggest(of LBS bikes) frame builder in the world, they don't misrepresent what they sell.

AND, if you were going to sell a fake wouldn't it be smart to emblazon said fake with the real brand logo. For instance fake Rolexes generally say "Rolex" on them somewhere.

AND, the bike you are looking at is a 2006 model?

AND(A BIG AND) your first sentence says the bike is USED(For those not in the know, this means someone else has had possession of the bike and might have even ridden it or changed something about it. It might even have different tires. Watch out, they might be fakes). Maybe the owner changed the brakes, maybe he removed the logo, maybe they are not Shimano brakes. Why don't you ask the seller?
The part number for a Ultegra caliper is BR-6600 which means nothing because a decent fake would have the part number cast into it anyway.
