Bike Forums - abandoned and usable bikes

Hello folks,

as I continue my search for the "cheaper-the-better" winter beater, I can't remove the image of two abandoned bikes in my neighborhood. They haven't moved an inch (really not an inch!) since I moved in that district in July, and I continuously pass besides them at almost everyday, in every temperature, and mostly at anytime during the day. One of these wold make a great winter commuter, but I don't want to steal them in any way! I am just saddened by the way those bikes have been abandoned, one locked with a u-lock kind, and the other with a big badass cable lock; and seeing them starting to rust from no use under harsh weather makes me think about how could I use one. :rolleyes:

What to do in that situation? Do you call the City office, the police? One is parked besides an apartment house and I already asked the owner if he knew to whom it may belong, but the other one is parked in front of a building which is for sale. I don't want to steal anything from anybody but they really seem like their owner is not willing to pick them up.... Any ideas?
