keeping it cool
 

I'm thinking of getting a CamelBak or something similar and was wondering how long do they keep your liquids cool? Is keeping it cool of any concern or just the fact it's a conveint way of carrying a lot of water?

I don't find that it keeps the liquid any cooler than a bottle, all things being equal. In fact, the first sip is often rather warm from having sat in the tube.

Disclaimer: I don't much like cold drinks so I don't bother with ice cubes or special CamelBak's that purport to keep things cold.

I premake my Gatorade drink the night before and chill it the refrigerator, then before the ride I put in about 2 dozen ice cubes. By the way cooler drinks on hot days while riding is better for the body by helping to reduce the core temperture.

I do the same thing. It stays cool for quite a while. I have been living in hot areas for a long time and sometimes that cold blast is great. The first sip can be warm bscause it is in the tube.

I used a "Genuine" camelback today for the first time, and I was surprised how cool the liquid stayed,(It was put in Chilled) and how little my back sweated. I have heard the complaint before about Warm drinks, but the people that did complain were not using genuine Camelbacks.

Really...I know that if you drink really cold beverages during hot temperatures, you are less likely to drink enough of them due to the body feeling 'refreshed.' I prefer cooler water, not cold though. I drink more that way. Oddly enough, the same goes for me and beer

Well if the CamelBak can keep it cool for at least 2 hours that would be fine with me, any thing more would be an added benifit.

Any thoughts as to why they don't make the insulating foam white instead of black? I live in the deep south texas and it gets h-o-t here. It would seem the foam would be soaking up the sun and heating up the H2O.
