Where Are the Deals on Sidi Dominators???

I've been reading a lot about bike shoes here, and think that the Sidi Dominators would be a great shoe for me. I tried them on at a LBS, since I had seen new 44s advertised for $110 shipped on roadbikeforum. Unfortunately, two things happened when I tried them on:

1) the 44s were tight (they actually didn't have a pair of Dominators in 44, so I tried on other Sidi MTB shoes in a 44), but the Dominators in a 44.5 felt GREAT. So I couldn't buy the $110 44s, because the size wasn't quite right.

2) I fell in love with the Dominators

So now I really want a pair (I definitely need MTB shoes, and would really like Sidis), and I can't really find any decent deals on them. I've read about all these folks who have bought them for half price, blah, blah blah, but after googling all over the place and checking out CL and eBay, I'm coming up short. Any ideas how to get a popular size like the 44.5s at a great price? I certainly would love to find an old model, but when I see low priced closeouts of old Sidi stock, it always seems to be road shoes and/or really small or really large sizes.

Thanks for any ideas.

The cheapest price I could find was in February at my LBS - $184.

With the cyclocross season starting up, it will be tough finding deals on dominators. They are awesome shoes.

Go buy your correct size at your local shop. You've already used their services, have already discovered that you can't get a "steal" online, and you've established that you aren't likely to find your size at a cut rate in the near future.

A pair that costs more and fits you is a better buy than a poor fit for a cheap price.

What if the 44.5's stretch out and your feet end up flopping around in them.

They say Lorica doesn't stretch, but my experience is that it does.

My experience with Sidis is that if they fit when you buy them, they fit.

Btw, I agree with Tom. Buy them where you tried them on.
You could ask if they will have a winter sale.... I put mine on layaway and throw them a few bucks a week until they were paid
for.

They're worth it.

I'm glad you didn't find any "deals" after using your LBS like that.

I was in the LBS for about five minutes. The salesman brought out the shoe I asked him to bring out, and told me nothing about it other than that "Sidi is the best". I'm sorry, but I don't feel obligated to buy from them.

Then don't go in there and try things on. It's poor taste, bordering on unethical.

My LBS charges almost $80 more then what I can get them for online. I'm not obligated to spend more money. He charges what he wishes.

He charges what pays the rent and utilities, pays employees for their time and pays for all the odd sized stock left at the end of the season where typically they'll sell for his cost or less...if at all. Hopefully, after all that overhead he'll make enough to feed his family and keep the shop open another day.

If your using you lbs to try them on buy them there. Once you have a pair and need to replace them when they wear out then you will know your size then look for the deal online then.

You should try the wider sizes ("mega" range) before you buy. The 44M might be what you want. I'm very happy with them and I don't have particularly wide feet.

Online stores pay for cheap warehouse space, few employees over a vast amount of inventory, minimal decoration costs. Bricks 'n mortar shops are in expensive prime retail locations, have a higher staff:inventory ratio and actually have to look nice for customers.

The point wordbiker was obviously making was that an LBS has far higher overheads relative to their size than online stores, so of course they are not going to have the same prices.

A couple points.

1. I have found that Lorica stretches very little. After a coast to coast tour where I wore them pretty much all day everyday for 73 days they still fit pretty much the same.

2. YMMV, but I think that the Sidi Bullet 2 is the same fit and I prefer the velcro closures. They are a good bit cheaper if you can find some place who stocks them (REI usually does). Mine got plenty of wear on my coast to coast trip and lots of riding since then and they are holding up great.

BTW mine are the Mega size and if you have wide feet they may be the answer.

Try Hutch's in Bend, Oregon. They have some Sidi Dominator and Genius 5 overstock that they're selling at their cost, which is $160. You can contact them via their website: https://www.hutchsbicycles.com
If you call, call the Westside location, as the Sidi's are over there. Ask for Scotty and tell him Brandon told you about the Sidi's...

Good Luck!

I had a perfectly good pair of Shimano MTB shoes, when I wandered over to the Sidi display at my LBS. I wasn't in the market for new shoes, but bought a pair instantly when I wrapped a pair of Sidis on my feet. They're awesome.
