Idiot hits parked truck
I left my house for a ride today about 1/8mile from the house I was restting the speedo and bam what happen? I just hit a 78 chevy truck at 14mph knocked the wind out of me and tweaked the wheels front wheel is a loss and I have to by the owner a ring that gos around tail light what a idiot I feel like a fool. luckly no one witnessed it. I will be hurting tommorow got a nice bruise on shooulder and chest and a nice cut on knuckle. I guess I could say I was lucky and didn't hit tuck square.

Knocked the hell out of yer spelling, too.:)
We all have similar stories. I T-boned a Bentley in my youth on my Varsity. The dent in the door would have cost me a dozen Varsitys, so I beat a strategic retreat. |
No I just can't spell:lol:

I pasted a parked car very early one Sunday morning in September of 1973. The bike wedged against the car, I flew over the bars. Laid in the street listening to gas slosh in the tank. Very early in the morning, no one saw me.
|
I could hear gas sloshing in tank as I laid there trying to breath lol
|
I feel a little better thought I was the only one to hit a parked car:lol:

I hit one years ago when I was 10. On my way home from the 7 eleven with a Slurpee. I hit it dead on in the front. Slurpee all over the hood. No damage to me or bike I just left. I'm sure it was a nice sticky mess after a few hours in the sun.

I hit one at about age 15 - came out of my driveway, and there was a car parked where no car EVER parked. Wham. Ended up sprawled across the trunk. No damage to the car - sheet metal was a lot thicker then. Bent the front forks back a bit (cheap bike) but otherwise rideable. Kept it for another few years.

I was going to say a 78 the steel was still thick enough to not dent at least. I grew up in a 79 Blazer, it would go anywhere, my mother couldn;t drive and would take corners too fast and hydroplane into poeples yards. 4 barrel 350 v8 and full time 4x4 she would just keep her foot on the gas and it would keep going. I wish they had kept it, when I go back there I still see it driving around.

I managed to hit a parked car when my cheap-o cantilevers on a no-name brand MTB gave up the ghost. This was years ago. No sign of the driver, so I left a note. Something to the effect of "Greetings! I ran into your car!" It, to, suffered damage to the rear signal casing. Cost me around $60 to have it fixed. The other day, though, a gang of high-school punks formed a walking line across the bike-path here. Guess they figured I'd have to go up the sand into the weeds. I took aim at the biggest one and looked him straight in the eye as I accelerated on the cranks. He jumped at the last second. That was no accident. I gave the power-salute and pedaled on my way.

When I was a kid I managed to hit a parked car with my brother's moped. I don't remember where I was looking, but I saw it at the last second and swerved. Caught my thumb on the side-view mirror, which snapped off of the car and broke and cut my thumb. The owner of the car came running out to see if I was ok. I told him I'd pay for the damage to his car, but he would have none of it, just wanted to make sure I was ok. Called my mom, called the ambulance for me, held onto the moped until we could come pick it up. My brother was furious with me though - the moped got scraped up and I think the seat got torn.

Go ahead, feel stupid and get it over with. I did the same thing one night riding home from work. Road was dry so I was moving along 16-17mph, glanced back to check on a car I heard behind me and when I looked forward there was a car parked right in front of me. I had been riding too fast for the reach of my lights. My bike survived with very little damage, I broke my nose, broke off 2 front teeth, and avulsed the inside of my lower lip. I got a new, brighter light the next day and hold my night time speeds below 15 mph. I think it is funny now, you will too, in enough time.

When I was, I'd guess, 14 or so, I was riding down the street with my dad, leading him by 15-20 yards or so. A van came the other direction and seemed kinda close, so once it passed me I looked back to make sure Dad was okay.
He probably yelled for me to look out, because then I hit the bumper of a parked car, endoed halfway, and fell sideways onto the street. The car had been sitting long enough to grow cobwebs to the curb, so it wasn't like it was a surprise parking job. :D My rear wheel got bent, so we got that replaced. I was fine, as far as I remember. Duhhhhh.... |
Wow. That had to hurt. Never hit a parked car before, but I remember when I was a 13 year old kid I was riding my BMX bike down the road and was watching a couple of girls in the back of a pickup and then WAM, nailed a mailbox head first.

Man I would consider myself lucky. If it had been a new truck it most likely would have cost you a couple hundred right off the top. Glad to hear you weren't too messed up. I watched a drug runner one time look back at some cops as he descended a steep hill with a 45 degree left turn at the bottom. He was so interested in the cops he hit the back of a parked car dead center. Taco'd the front wheel partially amputated a finger and scattered the drugs all over. I never saw anyone move so fast after awggering in like that. He scooped up the drugs and his bike leaving 3 cops laughing so hard they couldn't speak or do anything.

Been there...
Guilty as charged. I was riding a mountain bike, and the rear derailler was sticking (crud in it) so I turned to look back and nudge it with my heel. Pasted the back of a pickup and did a forward somersault into the bed. Not a scratch or bruise on me. The front wheel was even truable, so nothing injured except my pride.

when I was ten there was no helmet law in Ohio and the police gave out free frosty certificates to wendys to all kids wearing helmets. I hit a park police car in a park and the officer gave me a coupon for it.

Thanks aI feel better lol. I got my bike back $77 for new whell now I need to hit the junk yard and see if I can find the buety ring for the guys tail light.
|
I did that when I was about 12 or 13. Lesson learned. Move on.

I happened to see my son on his bike one afternoon as I was pulling into the neighborhood riding home from work. I caught him and we went for a short ride together, in which I came very close to rear-ending him while I was fiddling around with my GPS.:o

I was riding no-hands earlier this year when two friends called my name behind me..
by the time I turned around I hit the tail of the car and flipped over |
I did that when I got my first monster bicycle (it was to big for me and I was about 8 yrs old). Wasn't paying attention and WHAM! right into the back end of a parked car. It really dazed me but I don't remember if I had any bruises or other injuries. I hardly ever rode the silly bike because no other kids on the block had bikes. Now I'm older (much much older) and wiser and actually pay attention.
|
I've done it too. About 5 years ago. In my defense, I was really super drunk.
|
You were resetting your speedo? Like pulling out a wedgie?
I've run into a car stopped at a light. Just couldn't slow down fast enough. Chipped a tooth. Oh well. |
