Bike Colors
Why are so many bikes grey or black. My bike is totally black, and most of the bikes i see are black or grey or dark colors. Why aren't there more white/yellow bikes? They would stand out better so would be safer, and in my opinion look better.
Wouldn't it be nice if there were more yellow/white bikes?:thumb: |
It's tradition. Every bike I have ever saw was either white, black or grey. Of course, I'm colorblind, so maybe that is why.
|
my bikes white! and blue:thumb:

That's all very nice, but remember, yellow is the fastest color.

If you don't like the color of your bike, why not get it painted the color you want? That's what I did recently.
|
Why did you buy a black bike? Why didn't you hold out for a different color? Why are there so many grey/white cars on the road? I ride a red bike and drive an electric blue car.
torgrot |
I didn't buy my bike, I won it:D:D
and I literally have 60$ to my name, and so i have no money to worry about aesthetics, I was just wondering if the bike companies have a reason for all the black/grey. and what are you guys's favorite colors for bikes? Mine would be yellow |
3 of my bicycles are yellow.
1 of my bicycles is green. 1 of my bicycles is gold. 2 of my bicycles are blue. And BTW - blue is the fastest color. |
Black paint ages well, that's why.
|
1. grey-fade-to-black
2. grey 3. weird green 4. yellow/grey 5. mostly orange(bronze?)/black |
a more than likely color the masses will like. yellow is one of those love it or hate it colors, but i love it myself. white shows dirt and grease too easily, red i guess just says "steal me" and you'd think blue would be more popular.
reminds me what i read about henry ford when the model t came out. "you can have it in any color you want, as long as its black." |
The actual color of the frame is a dark burgandy that changes to purplish in bright light. So I've been playing with it...

my bike is white :)
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...d/IMG_4433.jpg i'd also go for a bright blue or a bright green. i briefly owned THIS once upon a time: http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...e/IMG_4438.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...e/IMG_4443.jpg my road bike is black. didn't choose the color - i found it that way. |
I actually do like that burgundy color. Its unique.
speaking of unique, that horn is probably the coolest horn I have ever seen. Plus it goes with the bike. Why did you get rid of that gem? |
i bought the bike from a garage sale for a friend who was interested in learning how to ride. it was the right size for her and everything. it's too small for me... otherwise i would've kept it and given her my current road bike! it's a norco frame, but couldn't tell you the model.
...sadly the friend never did get into riding, and the bike sits in her garage. she told me that if there is someone else who wants the bike, i could give it to them, so the bike doesn't go to total waste. all in working condition - i refurbed it a bit for her. |
oh wow, thanks to this thread i have been reminded of that bike!. my girlfriend is interested in riding 'round with me, but doesn't have an adequate bike... p'rhaps i could get the bike back and give it to her :). perfect!

i'd like to see more white and GOLD bikes as well O:-) but i'm a GT student

Wouldn't it be nice if there were more yellow/white bikes?:thumb: From the safety aspect I have to agree with you that more bikes should be either a white, HiVis yellow, or blaze orange. The only time I've ever seen bikes approximating any of these colors was in the late 80s early 90s. As it is I have a racing bike, a specialized Sirrus from 1988 that is pearlescent white and aqua that partly follows the bright-loud pattern of design. The inverse of this pattern was pearlescent white and red which was also used and was also pretty bright. (At least half of the bike would show up at night if I rode it then.) http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...0Bikes/073.jpg A 2007 Specialized Sirrus 700C hybrid that's a red (which is still not the best color for visibility at night): http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...0Bikes/020.jpg A 1989 Alpine Monitor Pass in Anthracite Grey (and even worse color for visibility particularly at night): http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...0Bikes/033.jpg A 1970 something Raleigh 20 in Sprite green (which like anthracite Grey may as well be camouflage at night.) http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...postupdate.jpg then there is my 2007 Schwinn Town & Country trike which is royal blue ( which again is like camouflage at night): http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...keSideView.jpg |
My new bike is white. It's a beauty, but it is also a ***** to keep it clean.
And white bar tape is, for obvious reasons, just ******ed. http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...alliance-1.jpg |
I have a stealth grey urban hybrid (so far as I can tell, urban means grey or matte black), because it was only available in one colour. Supposedly it's to attract less attention from thieves, but I think it looks good too. I have all the reflectors and I use lights even in the daytime, so I don't think visibility is too much of an issue.

<===== Mine is "Safety Yellow"
A few years ago, when we bought a car, the salesman mentioned that black was really popular. Considering that we live in hot ol' Dallas, that seemed like an odd thing. Come to think of it, I don't know what the "natural" color of carbon fiber stuff is....maybe it's all black or gray unless they paint it? |
Black is slimming.
My fixie is this awful burnt orange-ish color, original coat, too. I meant to repaint it, but by the time I got the money I'd grown to like it. It's certainly destinctive. And it aquired the name 'Tomato Frog', so I guess it isn't going tasteful for a long time yet. |
Ewwww! Now I'm reminded of the color of the Raleigh Chopper my dad bought me for my 10th Christmas. I loathed that rattling, shimmying, muscle-straining, 5-speeding, groin-pulling, lead-plated infernal bucket of useless nuts & bolts!* That said - it was the color of the new Nashbar Fixie. And I wanted either a yellow one or a green one.
* but I wish I had kept it new-in-the-box until now. |

Makes no difference what colour the bike is- They still need cleaning

Rust-oeum has come out with a reflective paint. I bought a can but haven't used it
yet, so can't post a pic, but if the whole bike is a reflector that sounds good to me. |

Naturally I have a contrary viewpoint.
I like matte camo colors. That way they can't get a good bead on you. |
