The same thing may happen if you don't capitalize the beginning of your sentences.

Which one?

The first saying is original with me. I love it when people say "I rode 40 miles on Saturday with 4,000' of climbing." Nobody ever says they did a ride with 4,000' of coasting.

I don't know where I heard the second one but I really like it.

I heard that one 20+ years ago while doing a lot of mountain climbing; guess quotes get around. Here's a few of my favorites:

“Its not something I do out of shear enjoyment, its what I do to feel truly alive.” Unknown

"I refuse to believe in a risk free society where the thrill of living is traded for the safety of existence." — Nick Ienatsch

"The principal difference between an adventure and suicide is the margin of error; . . . the narrower the margin, the greater and more exhilarating the adventure." - Tom Robbins, Even Cowgirls get the Blues

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, "WOW! WHAT A RIDE!" - Unknown

When I was a (much younger) skier, it was "faster and faster until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death".

Not cycling related, but I remember on some old sitcom, the teenage girl went to granddad for some sage advice, and the advice was "Keep yer pants on". There's actually some pretty good wisdom in there.

"Half of every hill is down". Generally. If you drive out to Lubbock, a few miles to the southeast, you go up on the Caprock- a long uphill. I'm not sure where the other side of that hill is- California? Anyway, it's pretty much a one-sided hill. I guess if you ride a loop, you're in good shape.

“ I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.”

Dune, Frank Herbert

could be good motivation for either a freaky down hill or daunting up hill
