Trek madone 5.9

Hello, i am from new jersey and im really new to this whole cycling thing. I recently purchased a Trek road bike off craigslist and i was "told" it was a madone 5.9 sl. It looked like the pictures from the web but when i got home and compared them more some things didnt compare.

I was wondering if i posted a picture of the bike that i purchased if someone could tell me if i was scammed or if i wasnt. I would GREATLY APPRECIATE IT!!

also, they said it was 54cm but that doesnt feel right..how would i measure it? thanks!!

Uh, hate to break it to you, but that's not a Madone 5.9 SL. That's not even a carbon fiber bike. I don't know what it is, but someone painted it to try and pass it off as a Madone.

Trek made other models in the Disco color scheme. That is DEFINITELY NOT A MADONE.

It's a 2007 Madone 5.9 SL

Nope. I take that back. It almost matches, but not quite.

Ah, there we go. It's a 2007 1500:

Dunno how much you paid, but I'd be looking to open a can of whupass if it was sold as a Madone

Unfortunately, dude, you can see where the tubes are welded together that that is the aluminum frame.

Carbon frames, aside from having no welds, have a little "OCLV" button on the seat tubes, and an OCLV decal.

What you've got is not a bad bike, and worth, arguably $400-$700 second hand (if used lightly).

If you paid any more than that, you've got to go get your money back.

Re measurement: take a metric tape measure and hold it along the top tube. Measure from the midpoint of the seat tube to the midpoint of the head tube. Just by the picture it looks a little tall to be a 54. Maybe a 56.

You assume that Trek never does odd stuff with colors. Per their archives my daughter owns a purple/silver MTB that doesn't exist Actually my son has the same bike as the OP in 52cm, and it's an 06

Serial # is the only "for sure". Heck, we may both be wrong

Correct me if I'm wrong, but most bike makers size their frames by a measurement of the seat tube. That is, from the center of the bottom bracket spindle along the seat tube to either the center of the top tube dia. or many times to the top of the top tube dia.
Although measuring the top tube is certainly worthwhile also ( and sometimes more relevant).

Just looking and guessing the OP's bike looks a bit big for a 54cm.

If you like it, and paid an amount you are happy with, then okay.

But it is not what the seller said it was. At all.
