Can anyone break down which seat from Selle Italia I should buy? There are a crap load to choose from. I am 280 lbs, want a super light weight seat that is ALSO super comfortable. I was going to order one from a lbs catalog but found that their are tons of choices. Because of the cost involved I don't want to order something that I will not be happy with. I only paln to ride a maximum of about 20 miles at a stint.

SI Trans Am XLP. I am also a big guy, and this is an excellent seat for a somewhat upright riding poition. I am assuming you neither ride bolt upright, or bent way over. Perhaps this would be a good moment to ask what sort of bike the saddle is going on?

I rode my uncles bianchi last week and it has the Selle Italia SLR I think its called??

It weighs 135 grams and it was pretty comfortable for me. Not like my other saddle which I will be replacing soon since it makes me uncomfortable "down there".

Mines a Nitrox, low end for this company, hurts like heck. Odd bone clicks..AM TRYING to get used to it 'cause it's very light..(the velo plush goes on for really long rides)

Got narrow hips, 150?lbs, mtb wide seats are bunk for me, super thins...well read above.
A nice padded road race seat works for me, road or mtb, good company though..I will buy more of their products..I must have 6,7 saddles now.. in bucket by the garage door.

Forget about super light weight. Go for comfort first. If you pick out a seat that your butt likes, you are more likely to enjoy riding the bike. If you pick out a seat that your scale likes, all that you have is a conversation piece so that you can brag about how little it weighs.

For 10 years I have used a Flite Titanium and found it comfortable, however It did not work on the tandem for me. I needed a wider saddle with a bit of padding, and the cutaway for the pelvic bone. I finished up with the trans am saddle,Womans type. This is comfy for me but It has a problem in that I am male and cannot tell anyone that I ride a womans saddle, so this bit of information is anonymous, right. The womans saddle is wider at the rear, and a shorter nose. Ideal for the tandem, where you are mainly seated when riding, but may also suit the larger male butt, that some of us have.

The only point I would make is for your weight, Go for Titanium rails. Yes they will be expensive and yes they will be ultra lightweight, but these are the only rails That I have never bent.

I tried a Selle Flite and had a severe burning sensation, instant rejection, before
15mi were up. Never had such an early problem with a saddle. My experience is
that no one can tell in advance for themselves or anyone else which saddle will
work or not. Selle has a good rep and is popular with the pros but seems oriented
towards those who have no weight worries. Steve

Lobo, I'm about your weight and have felt like I have tried every saddle looking for "The One". From SI I had a Pro Flite Trans Am Gel Flow which was real comfortable. The only thing is that after about 9 months it started to get worn. At our weight don't waste your money on a lightweight saddle.
Now, not to turn this into a "Brooks" thread I would advise you to look at them. I recently bought a B17N and after breaking it in have found it to be more comfortable than anything I ever tried from SI. These saddle are built like a brick "S" house and should give years of service. I have found over the years that given my, and your size, a lightweight plastic and metal saddle will not last if you intend to do any serious amount of riding.

I tried the Trans Am Gel Flow and it was agony. Which, you might say. illustrates the problem. The Trans Am XLP and Gel Flow are almost identical. But I love one, and hate the other. All depends on the fit. I have a Brooks saddle as well; and they are also excellent. They make saddles with thin leather, at your weight I would avoid them. The B17 Champion Special has thick leather, the standard B17 has thin. The B17 is their most popular saddle and fits a lot of people.

Just don;t get a saddle with Ti rails. especialyl the hollow ones. I weigh 175 pounds and i snapped a Flite TT Ti rail after just 6 months of use.
