I've got a Giant hardtail MTB, which is my commuter, leisure, and utility bike. This lives in the dining room.

My wife's got a Raleigh Cameo (SA 3spd) with wicker baskets mounted on front and rear, largely for shopping, occasional leisure cycling (I'm working on the commuting and possibility of touring...). This gets pride of place in the lounge.

No car.

Apparantly there's no more room for bikes downstairs, and as the staircase is a semi-spiral and rather small, preventing storage of bikes upstairs, I'm not allowed any more bikes until I buy a shed

Whew that's a lot of bikes! Mostly in the garage on a special bike stand from a closed-up LBS. Lucky find and eliminates the clutter somewhat.

I read this thread alternating between envy and relief. Envy because I am a pack-rat and collector, and given half a chance would have more than the 3 bikes currently in the household. Relief because I don't have a garage or shed, and therefore can't act on my need to make a run at Mike's record.

The bikes:

• 1996 REI Novara Randonee, inexpensive steel tourer also used for commuting.
• 1999 Trek 5000, weekend sportster road bike.
• 2001 Meridian Cascade, aluminum road tandem with Softride stoker set-up.

I have 2, my road bike which is my baby, it's a Terry Symmetry and a mtn bike (GT Aggressor).
Husband has a Giant, daughter also owns a Giant and my two little girls have just the basic little girls bikes for now. So all together our family has 6 bikes. I'm sure we'll add to that in the future.

I put myself down for five-plus, but I think some clarification is in order.

Academically speaking, I have seven and a half bikes:


1 - Schwinn Fastback
1 - Fisher Aquila
1 - Frankenbike fixed gear
1 - recently aquired winter bike of unknown lineage
1 - two old as dirt, POS Schwinn Varsitys, counted as 1/2 each
1/2 - little Huffy kids bike that I ride on campus
1/2 - little old 'chopper' bike
1/2 - old Italian something or other, waiting for my restorative attention
1 - I have so many random parts, I'm sure there's a whole bike in there somewhere

I didn't count these, but I also have 3 frames of vastly varying quality, awaiting their fate.


I'm always on the lookout for more, as I have recenty come to terms with my growing obsession and decided that I no longer have to justify another bike.

So far, most of the respondents by far own 2 or more bikes! I'm sure that there are more than 3 people in BikeForums that only have one bike, albeit not for long.

It's the co-own bit that got me to go for two rather than one. with my wife's bike she gets to ride it, but I get to do the maintenance :)

When I read this post, the image I recalled was of the Ottoman Turk sultan who had 200 or more concubines. I mean, come on, you can only ride one at time, right? Unless it's a business or a private museum, why so many bikes? Wouldn't stamp collecting be a less cumbersome hobby? :confused:

Mine: An '80s Vintage Basso that I pieced together a year or so ago.

A '85/'86 Cannondale SR600 that I bought new as a frame back then and put many miles on while in college. "Seasprite" green is still their best color.

A '74 Schwinn LeTour refitted as a fixed gear.

A 2000 Univega Modo ? (the black/white one with Mirage/Veloce triple. My first "modern" bike.

An unknown year but purchased NOS Colnago Gilco tubed Master frameset. Fitted with Ergo 8. My #1 ride.

Hers: A vintage 531 framed English or Irish frame. Originally sold as a "Harding" from what was apparently a pretty well known California shop during the 70s. I completely rebuilt and painted it. Mostly Campy N. Record.

Her Fuji Supreme 12 speed is in pieces and destined for eBay someday as I don't have infinite space and it's been completely replaced in her heart by the Harding.

My 6 year old has a dep't store learner and I have a decent quality BMX frame that will be a quality ride when she's ready.

GT -- mtb (doesn't get the use it should since my inspirational purchase (see above))

I have 3, one old sport touring 5 speed (archived at my parents place) , one sport touring 21 speed commuter, and one Bob Jackson touring bike.
I NEED some others though:
A lightweight road bike
A light hardtail MTB
A lightweight 24" wheel folding bike for travelling by rail.



I also co-own a cheap small womans MTB.

Our living room used to seem way too big, with the lion's share of the room unused. Now with 5 bikes and a BOB trailer occupying that part of the room, the space seems just about right.

We only keep functioning bikes that we actually use in the living room. In addition to the 5 functional bikes that we keep in the living room, we have a couple of non-functional ones we keep in the back room.

Five of the seven bikes were purchased used at minimal cost. The used Shogun is the winter salt eater.
