Value help please
 

Some guy gave me this Marinoni Special. I think it's from the 80's. It's in great shape. The only thing wrong is a little bit of dry rot on the tires. I believe everything is original, even the decals are almost perfect. I wanna know what would it cost to buy new wheels for it that would fit without bending the frame? or How much could i expect to get for the bike if i sold it?

You shouldn't lean your bike against the sharp corners on those steps. If you have to lay it down, lay it on soft grass, chain-side up (always).

Why do you need to bend the frame for new wheels?

It's from the 80's.

The rear drop out width is too narrow for modern cassette hubs.

However, if it's a traditional steel frame it can easily be cold set to fit modern hubs.

Why do you need new wheels if you might sell it? Get new tires.

Possibly all the chrome has fallen off the rims ?

Why do you want new wheels? I didn't look at your bike closely, but nothing jumped out to me that was wrong with them.

they have dry rot and are not normal tires with tubes but are attached to the rims. I know nothing about bikes.

Ah, you need tubular tires, not wheels.

Seeing as you know so little about bicycles and seem to have 'your' classic bicycle's best interests at heart, why don't you see if you can find a local enthusiast and gift it to them ?

That way the bicycle would have the best survival chances (as they seem slim atm) and someone else could also enjoy/benefit from the generosity shown to you.

You could state where you are and ask if anyone on the forum would like this classic bicycle on the understanding that as a gift they cherish and restore it and promised not to try to make a quick buck on it ?

wow. so i took this bike to a bike shop yesterday. that's where i heard about this forum. so far on this forum the only person that has helped me is the person i met at the bike shop, and i guess really i didn't need the forum to talk to him, since i already had met him in person. but not getting real answers from anyone else is way different than being accused of stealing the bike. i don't even know what to say other than you are an idiot. really, it wasn't given to me for free. i sold my boat to someone, and i had a whole bunch of gear i didnt want anymore. i didn't think he would want it so i was gonna sell it on ebay. but turned out he did want it. he offered to trade this bike for all the gear, in that he was into triathlons and i have always been a runner/swimmer so he was interested in getting me into the third part of it. so, although i didn't feel i needed the whole explanation till now, that's why i didn't actually "pay" for the back. i traded. but hey. thanks. even besides the accusation i find your assumption that i'm not going to take care of the bike offensive because i'm really excited about it and like this bike a lot. hence me finding a forum to ask what to do with it. plus, even if i wasn't gonna take care of it, its a ****ing BIKE. get over it. your name says you live in the uk. who are you to care? i bet if you saw someone riding get hit by a car, you'd run to help the bike. i will not state where i am so a creep like you can find out. i think from now on i'm just gonna trust the real ppl i meet instead of use a forum where i'll be accused of stealing.

Make your mind up, in your first post you said you were given it and asked how much you could sell it for.

There are plenty of people here willing to give you helpful advice if you were just a little clearer in what you ask.

Jeez...that isn't the same as asking you where you are.

It was a suggestion, from what you said, you had a bike for nothing and didn't want it.

There is a specific section for Classic & Vintage bikes... a much better place to discuss older bikes.

And there is a subsection there to specifically ask about the value of vintage bikes.

You will get the attention of people there that may be able to let you know what the bike is worth. However, one aspect of the value of a bike is where the bike is located. For example, depending on the bike if it is in New York it could be worth 2 or 3 times what it is worth in Iowa.
