A buddy of mine lost his last year at Lake Tahoe. He did a climb up the Mount Rose Highway from the Lake, then leaned the bike against his hitch-mount rack while he changed shoes, got a drink etc. Then he just got in the truck and drove away. When he stopped for gas 15 miles down the road, he says, he was standing there holding the hose thinking that something looked vaguely wrong...Oh, yeah--where's the Litespeed?

Happens all the time at school here; we'll take a "theft" report and then I'll go look for the bike. (especially if it's not a "hot" theft item)
I've recovered a number of them....The kids just forgot where they parked 'em.

Can't see CL from work, but a friend took the bus home once because she was tired and left her bike on the front rack. She managed to find the driver the next day and he said he turned it into lost&found, but she was never able to recover it.
