Cycling Attire-Gloves
Over the last year, I have had the hardest time, finding a biking glove that fits properly. About a year ago, I bought two pairs(dumb move on my part....maybe:rolleyes: ) of these gloves-http://orangecycleorlando.com/images...s_blu_05_m.jpg
The problem I had with them is, the padding would never end up, being on my palm. So I bought a pair of these-http://www.hudsontrail.com/viewItem/10/596/12633/ They have already ripped slightly. |
I've been doing very well with going to walmart and buying Bell pro-gel gloves. The gel cushion is just at the right spots of my hand.

I use weight lifting gloves. They tend to have heavy, thick leather for the palms, and cut-off finger tips.
I go to Play It Again Sports. I don't know if you have these stores in your area. You might want to check a few sports stores in the weight lifting sections. They don't have much padding on the palms. I personally don't like padding in my gloves. |
These are my current favorite (in high-visibility). The padding is in all the right places - just like the Bell Pro-Gels above:

I like tool gloves, like in hardware stores.

I used to buy the PI Touring Glove because they were comfortable to me and were one of the cheaper ones in the bike shop at $20. I figured a touring glove would be built to last. I went through two pairs, and each pair wore out on me in six months, which included riding them for 2-3 months with holes in the palms. I guess by calling them "touring" gloves they mean they should last one short tour and then be thrown away.
I own several Sugoi clothing items and find Sugoi to make very high quality stuff, so the next glove I tried was a pair of their $30 C9 Gel Gloves which just happened to be on sale for $22.50. I've been wearing the C9 gloves for over a year and they are holding up extremely well -- I anticipate getting 2 years total use out of them before I have to replace them. Very good investment. This link has a photo of the palm side. |
I just started biking and bought a pair of Giordana strada gels at my LBS. These gloves seem like they are great on the first ride I used them and tons of padding in them. Pick them up for $20 the other day.

Is the padding on the Specialized glove meant to be on the palm? Mine are on offset to one side.

The only way to check a glove is on the bike. Find a shop that has a good array of manufacturers and models go to that shop with just a bit of ache in the hands from riding. Try gloves on a find a pair with the padding where you want it. Then try them on the bike and see if they are any good.
