Best value in an SPD shoe?
First time buyer question' What's the best value in a SPD compatible shoe?
I ride 50-80 miles/wk on flat road on a road bike (Scattante Race). Wanted to try SPD pedals and hence the questions. Your inputs are much appreciated:thumb:! |
it kind of depends on whether you want something you can walk around in with little problem, or something more road oriented. all of them walk fairly well, but some better than others.
i like shimano shoes. they are stiff enough to ride around in, but most of the mnt/relaxed models are good walkers. there's usually a set on closeout or sale, somewhere on the net. just my opinion. btw, id go with time atacs before spd, but im horribly biased. |
The best value is one that fits. I've got a nice pair of Shimanos on my commuter that are a little narrow for me so I think they were a terrible value.
But if you're looking for an inexpensive shoe, try Performance. I got a pair of cheap Shimanos like these but grey for $30 once. http://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=2120 They were fine for a couple of years. |
I just picked up a pair of Shimano SH-MT31 MTB shoes from Performance for about 48 shipped. Wearing them right now to see if they'll be comfortable on the bike or not, the jury will be out but after about 3 hrs sitting here they seem to be fairly decent.
Sizing info: I normally wear 9.5 or 10 Nike's, and actually my current Nike's are 10.5. That being said, I took a chance and went with the 43's which are the largest size they still have in stock, and they seem to be all right. The proof will be in the first ride though! Tom |
sidi srs - means bever having to throw good shoes away just because the sole rubber is worn out

my specialized tahoes were relatively cheap. I think I paid 70 bucks at the LBS. They are comfy enough to walk around in all day if you had to.
