Aw nuts, I ran over a squirrel...
I'm doing about 23 into the shade so my eyes didn't adjust to the road quite yet and was approaching a right turn, this squirrel darts over from the left, I knew there were a couple of guys right behind and next to me and didn't want to make any sudden moves. Next thing I know, *BUMP* and I heard one of the guys behind me make this groaning "ouuuch" sound. I didn't mean to, I didn't even see it coming.

If it makes you feel any better, I once hit a wild turkey while MTB riding on an old logging road.

Well I guess I do feel better.. a turkey's a helluva lot bigger than a squirrel, I'm surprised it didn't survive and come after you, heh.

Did you splatter it or just "thump/er" it?

Ew.. splatter? Can they do that?
All I know is I felt a bump, it all happened so fast I don't even know if the back wheel went over it or not. I know when my gf ran over a rat, she threw it up from the front wheel and it hit her foot, so essentially she ran over the rat then kicked it to add insult to injury, I still jab her about it today.
The thing is I hit it about 5-6ft from the right side of the road, when I went back there, it was gone, wasn't on the road or the side of it.

I will admit to a cat. But they should look both ways before crossing the street.

Hey, squirrels are just teenage heathens that like nothing better than to play death tag. People don't get called "squirrelly" for nothing.

This week, I passed a guy on a bike path that follows a river. He was in full bike gear pushing his road bike. He was moving slowly. His back wheel wasn't turning. When I asked if he wanted any help, he groaned that he had been attacked by a goose. I don't know how the goose fared. From experience, I know they can be very aggressive. I once stopped so a family of geese could cross the path. When they were across, I started riding again. One of the geese turned around and charged me!

I have a sign on the back of my EZ3 trike that says: "I brake for squirrels, (four legged only)".

A bunch of years ago, I was in a group ride and we had a squirrel commit suicide. Ran right into the wheels of the guy in front of me. He got hit by the chainrings and was caught up into the rear wheel. Unfortunately, I was right behind my buddy when this happened. I was splattered with squirrel guts.
It was quite funny actually. I don't know how many cars stopped when 5 of us where standing on the side of the road and I was covered in blood. Luckily, I had my mouth closed!
Someone even called the ambulance and the police. The cop showed up first, laughed and then cancelled the call.
The worst part was it was late spring, really hot and I had to finish the ride with drying squirrel blood and guts on me.

Riding the bike trails in Valley Alabama. I came close to running over several Bushytails and a fox.
