Cadillac Bicycles?
 

What do you guys know about Cadillac Bicycles? They have a website dedicated to the Cadillac bicycle product line - everything from Cruisers to Road Bikes.

They are priced in the middle-zone. Not too expensive, not Walley-World. Around $300 to $400 for a lot of their offerings. Some, of course, are in the thousands of dollars, but they seem to have the gamut.

What is the word on these bikes? Good, Bad, Mediocre?

I am not exactly sure why, but I have the image you should be able to get one of these bikes by collecting proof of purchase seals from Marlborough cigarettes.

Is this GM's new 60 mpg vehicle to appease US Congress and get some funding?

...but that is my own paradigm.

Well... Whenever you see a bike like this that's been "branded" as a non-bicycle company product, it just means that Caddillac (or Hummer, or whoever) has paid a bike company to build a bike to their specs and paint their name on it.
That's the case with "Smith & Wesson" Police bikes; they are essentially an advertising product for Smith & Wesson. A standard frame with a bunch of standard bits bolted on and the logo applied.

These look like decent cruiser-type bikes, but the top-of-the-line model seems overpriced for what you're getting... If you're really turned on by brand-name recognition.....

They are the only readily available bikes in the USA with models featuring the NuVinci hub so far as I know. Certainly no local dealer for them that I know of.

Notice this at the bottom of that site:
"Cadillac, the Wreath and Crest Emblem, related Emblems and the vehicle
body designs are General Motors Trademarks used under license to Kent."

The $60 bicycle I used to build my "Snake Farm" bicycle is a Kent bicycle from Walmart.

I doubt GM hires somebody to build bicycles. More like some Chinese bicycle company comes to GM and offers to pay them X dollars to use their logo.

On the Lifetime Warranty page:
"CAUTION: THE FOLLOWING EXCLUSION APPLIES TO ALL CADILLAC BICYCLE MODELS. This warranty does not apply to any unit that has been used for stunt riding, bicycle moto-cross, dirt biking, or similar activities and all CADILLAC BICYCLES units are not designed or intended for such purposes or usages."

"DO NOT use CADILLAC BICYCLES for wheeling, stunt riding, ramp jumping, acrobatics, or similar activities or with motors as pwer driven vehicles..."

I've seen Cadillac bicycles in some of the poorest bike shops in New York City. I'm talking bike shops where you'll see department store brands right along with these bikes. No bike shop that can afford to carry a major brand will even store Cadillac brand bikes.

Never buy a car manufacturer branded bicycle...or vice-versa.

I wouldn't buy one due to the stigma of the Cadillac name.

Well, if I was going to have someone "pimp my ride", a Cadillac bicycle would seem most appropriate.

The fact that they don't have leather saddles and leather grips/bar-tape is almost sinful.

During the next gas price spike, look for the guy with a big purple hat and white platform shoes riding the Cadillac bicycle. He has your rental date for the evening.

Peugeot?

Perhaps in that case, the implication is that one should never buy a Peugot car.

In the case of Peugeot they actuallly made both the bikes and the cars, along with motor scooters and motorcycles. All their cars were quite good vehicles based on conversations I had with owners when they were being imported. They made bicycles before making cars as did a number of early American car and airplane manufacturers. The bicycle started the personal transportation revolution.

So far as I know Cadillac bicycles, as well as all other automotive brand bikes currently offered, are not made by the auto manufacturers. Nothing too new about this as I remember a Maserati bicycle from 20 to 30 years ago that had never seen the Maserati factory either. Sems to me that there was a thread recently on an outrageously priced "Ferrari" bicycle being offered too and I have seen Ferrari branded telescopes being offered recently.

BTW I recently mentioned Cadillac bikes to a LBS mechanic I respect. He stated that the ones he saw at bike shows did not impress him at all. Pretty much low end parts. This from a shop that sells a lot of Electras:eek:

Also reading the above posted descriptions versus warranty info I found hilarious. Use the BMX and Mountain bikes as per the descriptions and the warranty is voided. What kind of BS is that.:notamused:

The frame is probably made in a little workshop in China or Taiwan. But that does not make the frame any different to some of the big manufacturers in the world.

What will matter will be the quality of parts bolted onto the frame.

But-(Other than Peugeot) I would not buy a bike from a car Manufacturer. And I definiteley will not be buying a car from a bike Manufacturer. And having owned one (The car I mean)- That will include Peugeot.
