In need of your opinion/suggestion.

Hello!

I am new to the forum. I've being looking around to gather some information about bicycles in general. I'm thinking about buying my first bike and need your suggestions and opinion. I'm looking for a Hybrid mostly. My price range around 550$ CAD. I'm looking for something with good performance but still confortable to ride.

I narrowed it down to 4 bikes;

Trek 7.2 FX 2009 [559.99$ CAD]

Giant FCR 3 2009 [559.99$ CAD]

Giant Seek 3 2009 [599.99$ CAD]

Cannondale Quick 5 2009 [549.99$ CAD]
http://www.cannondale.com/bikes/09/cusa/model-9QR5.html (official website with info)

http://www.primeauvelo.com/man-bikes...ard-laval.html (Bike store I'm planning to buy it)

I'm found a store that carry all of them in-stock. I'm planning to go see them (test drive too if possible) before buying them. I will use the bike to go to work and week-end ride. Wich one has the better components (gear, seat, brake, etc.) for the price? Wich one will be easily upgradable in the future (if needed)?

I would highly appreciate your suggestions/opinions! I just realise that alot of people here have alot of knowlegde with bikes (valuable information ;)). I was borrowing (last summer) my father in law's road bike (an old 1980ish...) but I decided it's time to buy one for myself. The road bikes are a bit too expensive for me right now, but the hybrid seems to fit my needs. I will mainly use the bike on asphalt and maybe sometimes a little bit on grass (if I'm in a park or something..).

Thank you in advance! Your help is really appreciated!:thumb:

Not much between the bikes on specs so it is down to two things to do. Wait for recommendations and test ride each model.

The test ride would give you an idea on what suits you. Each bike is different but one would say "Buy me".

Now on a recomendation. The Giant FCR3. This is one I can recommend- but this is only on test riding them. I do have an FCR1 but converted to drop bars. Several friends have them though and they are pleased with the bike. Both riding and reliability. If I do have a criticism- and it would be the same on all the bikes- then it it would be the wheels- but then I am not happy with the stock wheels on most bikes. And I would recommend the FCR over the Seek bikes in the Giant range.

And as to upgrades-They only get done as parts wear out and that will not happen for a while on the FCR. Or you could go mad and convert the FCR into a road bike as the frame and most components are the same as the Giant OCR range. Attached is my FCR converted to road use.

Thank you!

That's exactly what I wanted to know! I was planning to test them in store when I get there. I saw everywhere on the forum that testing it is THE key when choosing a bike. It's nice to know that the frame will be good (on the FCR) to convert later in a road bike(If needed). Also, you have a really nice bike ;)

Once again! Thank you.
Johnny
