Hitch racks and class V 2.5" receiver question

My 2014 Ram 3500 has a Class V 2.5" receiver hitch and I also have a reducer sleeve that adapts it down to a more normal 2". Problem is I am concerned as to whether or not the threaded bolt that tightens down most of these hitch racks down to the receiver so that they do not rattle and move around are not designed for the extra width of the bigger receiver. The bolt must be long enough so that I can slip a cotter pin through the hole in the bolt that sticks through the hitch. The rack I am looking at is the Saris Freedom Superclamp 2. I spoke to Saris today and the rep there was not really sure of the answer. Has anyone else here been through this? Am I being concerned for no reason?

We have the same problem with a GMC 2500 HD. Saris does not list this model as compatible for their hitch racks on their web site. Their customer service told us they did not support that configuration. Finally broke down and got a 4.5" hex head bolt with a 1/2 " thread. A friend with a drill press made a hole for the pin.
Good Luck.

Thats what I was afraid of but the "fix" sounds easy enough. I am also looking at the 1up racks which have an adapter that allows there expander ball to work with a 2.5" hitch but it is a bit pricey.....

Unfortunately, haven't figured out how to lock the hitch to the truck. The lock supplied with the rack is about 1/4" too short to work with this hitch box.

This isn't new technology. I am really surprised by the lack of information and products....

Try etrailer for reducers that extend behind the 2.5" receiver and present a more typical 2" receiver. I think a Brophy HR26 reducer might be like this.

Thats not a bad option at all. I am a little worried about the extra setback but that still may be the best option. Thanks
