Well, I would support them on dumping the bike lanes. But they way to stop red light/stop sign running is the enforce the law. Write tickets, and levy heavy fines.

As far as what the people are wearing, I am sure the city has laws to deal with indecency. ALthough the type of clothes being desribed are not indecent. So what you have are some religous nuts.These religious nut jobs should not try or be allowed to force their ignorance on other people.

What you do in your home or church is your own business.

When you force your religious beliefs on me when I'm in a public street- that is a problem.

If a bike lane would get scantily clad girls to ride past my house I'd be out there right now painting my own bike lane in front of my house!!!

The hasidic community chooses to have a far more conservative notion of adequate dress than the society at large. That is their right in our society. If you want to dress up to your eyebrows, have at it!!

But that does not mean that they have the right to impose their taboos on society in general. If they want to have their rights respected, they need to respect the rights of others.

The photo of the "scantily" clad woman was laughable. I very much doubt if the lady in question would be deemed to be anything but "modestly" attired by 99% of our population.

A certain segment of the hasidic community needs to realize that tolerance begins at home.

+1! Also, Didn't the Untied Nations resurrect an ancient nation just for the Post WW2 Jews, pissing off and dispossessing the local inhabitants, giving us the frucked up Mideast that we have today? The best policy for dealing with religious nutjobs is this: when they are demanding elimination of anything due to their religious beliefs, the response should be to put a lot more of it in place. This way they'll learn they better not try to force their ****ed-up whacky notions upon the rest of us.

I don't think having different dress standards from the rest of society qualifies a group as nutjobs. But really, if they want to control what they look at, as opposed to what they wear themselves, they need to go start a commune out in the country or something along that line.

They might also study up on the topic of complaining ("murmuring" in the King James version), which was never very favorably looked upon.

Fundis of any flavor pretty much S***. When I was younger the local Baptist church refused to play our (Assembly of God) church in a softball game because our minister wouldn't make us guys with long hair get it cut. He said if God wanted us to cut our hair He (God) would tell us. I liked that minister.

What exactly are the women accused of "peddling" (i.e. selling)? I expect to see the confusion between 'peddle' and 'pedal' in forum posts, but I'm a little surprised to see it in a newspaper article, even if it is the New York Post instead of the Times.

Some women should wear bikinis and ride past that area to protest the potential elimination of bike lanes.

I live in Vermont. We just had a naked bunch of cyclists ride through the state capitol of Montpelier. There is no law against public nudity here, so no laws were violated. But it is illegal to "disrobe in public." So arrive nude in the first place.

They were all there to demonstrate against the importation of oil and the reliance on automobiles in general. Typical afternoon here.

Ever sat on the beach in Tel Aviv? Bike shorts and jerseys are much more modest than what most people are wearing while sunning at the Med (not that I was complaining).

Shows what I know. I thought kosher was about food. "scantily clad women" aren't food.. Err... on second thoughts... :)
