How much...
...did you spend on your bike?
|
Are you an agent for my wife?
|
More than I thought I would... less than a month of rent.
|
Which bike?

I like the previous answers, but I'll throw in a real one.
Nicest Bike: 1983 Bianchi Alloro - Nothing, it was a gift/pledge for riding an MS150... alternative was a borrowed Bianchi Mountain Bike. Fun Bike: Fuji Roadie converted Fixie - ~$80 bike, and somewhere between $200 and $300 once done. BMX: Used Cycle Craft Frame, Full DK build/parts - $200 if I remember correctly... that was back in 1994. Still ride it semi-regularly, so I think I'm getting my money's worth. |
Total so far I have spent 75 on my project bike but the amount is going up slowly as I get more cash flow since I am a college student
|
Which bike, I have 3.
Mountain Bike - It was given to me by a college friend who was moving overseas. I have replaced the tubes, bought a Bell water bottle and computer - $50 since 2003. Trek 7.2 FX 2006 - I bought it used off CL $200 in 08. It was a college student and was stored outside. It needed bottle cages, a computer, new chain and cables, all brake pads, extra tubes, saddle bag, tire levers, - $125. I later replaced the seat - Forte $20, Bar ends $20, extra headlight $80. Total - $ 445 . Trek 2.1 2009 - I bought new in May, added wireless computer, saddle bag, frame pump, extra tubes, tail light, bottle cages, water bottles, clipless peddles and shoes - over $1k but less than $2K . I ride at least 100 miles a week, much more if time permits - I now commute 3 or 4 days a week. |

MSRP+IN Sales Tax= How much I paid for it
|
What I spent
I bought a redline 510 for 360ish, bike rack for 100, helmet for 40, mirror for 20, bag for 15, pump for 12, extra tube for 4 bucks, speedometer for 25. Total of $576 dollars. WAYYYYY more then I planned on spending lol.

I'll be down to 10 cents a mile in a couple of years. (Not counting the bike goodies I've bought since.)
|
Which one? I've always have a project bike around too.
My road bike has received the most attention and money with $400 tied up in wheels alone. I've installed new derailleurs and upgraded the fork. |
As an adult, not counting bicycles I had as a kid, I currently have 6 bicycles, but have had 2 others as well.
Is there a specific one you're referring to? |

I'm at about 25c/mile right now, after spending the equivalent of 5 house payments. |
Much more than I thought I would.

Two bikes now, about $1000 each originally.
That was more than I thought I'd spend, but they are a recumbent and a semi-recumbent--and at the time there were no cheaper alternatives. The totals now is about $1800 and $2300. That's all the accessories and parts replacements/upgrades. There are other bikes I'd love to have for free, but none I'm planning on buying unless something catastrophic happens to one of the two I've got. Two accessories I don't have yet are touring bags and some kind of a trailer for hauling cargo, but I have no pressing need for either right away. ---- The "cost per mile" is worth bringing up also; I expect these two are all I'll have for a while. If I had to not buy any other bikes for the next ten years and keep these bikes the way they are (except for replacing what wears out) it wouldn't bother me much. ~ |

My first "real" bike - 2007 Kona JTS, bought used for $700 with Dura-Ace cranks and Ultegra drivetrain. I prob could have bargained down a bit though
|
$200 for my BSO
|
A lot more than my budget but a lot less than it would sell for if it was on the floor.

I stopped counting when I passed 4K into my $1500.00 recumbent. Do I regret any of it? Naaah. If you have upgrade-itis, you just live with it. bk
