LA is on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

Great story, cool pics and he's Pissed. So run out and get a copy as soon it hits news stands.

I can't believe that they woud do that to him. Nothing better happen or I swear. That curse will hopefully be broken. I'm scared now.

Yes it's a curse and LA is just the man to say bring it on. ;)

Looks interesting might need to read that one.

i'm only speaking as a photographer here, but i'm getting really tired of the crossed-arm defensive pose. Good lord, can someone come up with something different with this guy?

The chamois grab position?

Speaking as someone who also works in the visual media - I'm interested to hear what you might recommend. Based on the headline and cover blurb alone, it may not be not creative, but it seems appropriate. Is he not defending his title?

Crack'n'fail 06-24-04 03:02 PM

not saying it isn't appropriate, just personally tired of it. I vote for slvoids chamois grab. LOL, good one.

Actually, with the title I would recommend a more open stance as if he's positioned to receive whatever you have to dish out. If you were telling someone to bring it on, would you be standing with your arms crossed? I imagine you'd probably stand with arms out, palms up, head cocked with a little attitude that maybe asks the question "you got it or not?"

For a more lighthearted approach, you could spoof the movie "Bring it on," surround him with cheerleaders or something. I guess that would be better for an interview in Maxim, though. LOL.

if he is so angry, maybe they could use a nice wide angle and get in tight on him and have him rage out, camp it up like something out of a comic book.

Again, i think it's an appropriate pic, I just might like to see something else every once in a while.

The photo "theLook" says it all.....when they all done their best, he looks back, stands up and peddles off!! Dang!

it's the same thing with band photos. all band photos end up looking the same. one guy in the front looking intense, one guy kneeling off to the side, another guy looking off in the distance, etc...

H_Roark 06-24-04 03:51 PM

Is it on the stands now, or do we have to wait a week?

randya 06-24-04 04:03 PM

Yawn....

Crack'n'fail 06-24-04 04:49 PM

Of course, I think it's important to note that this guy shoots covers for Sports Illustrated and I do not. So take my opinion for just that. . . my opinion.

No dude - your opinion is right on. Remember though, just because this guy took the shot, it was someone else who decided which photo would end up on the cover. I'd be interested to see the proofs from the entire shoot.

He's also on the cover of Outside magazine. Great stories about other team members, LA's major rivals, and other TdF winners.

Hey Crack - I agree. What about putting him on a trainer in an aero position - muted/diffused background - and just have him staring intensely into the camera. For my money that would be a great shot, and possibly make his competitors a tad nervous... ;)

Ebbtide 06-25-04 10:36 AM

It is his "image". There is a bit if difference between what we see on OLN and what is "mainstream" (who else besides cyclist would even subscribe to oln other than rednecks... I am a redneck, so its ok).

On main stream media, Lance is portayed as some macho-tough super cyclist ....ehem.......in lycra shorts.

Why do you think Nike has him boxing and playing b-ball. If I was the man I was ten years ago, as soon as I'd see a guy in tights I would head for the fridge. Boxing, I might stay seated for that.

Cover of SI, way cool for cycling IMO, tough guy image or not. Unless your into cycling, it is very boring as a sport is concerned. It is the people that make it marketable. Which reminds me, Wimbeldon's opening rounds is on.

I think he should pose like that old Johnny Cash pic where he's flipping of the camera... that would show that he's pissed off !

Did you see that Outside has two different covers on this July 2004 issue. Both are Lance. One has him head on helmet look. The other is profile, dark shirt ...
Same liner: "Can Anybody Beat This Guy?" -- both versions (same insides) were at Borders here in Chicago.

Yes,but with these lyrics in the back ground.

By Johnny Cash

Won't Back Down

Well I won't back down, no I won't back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
But I won't back down

Verse 2
Gonna stand my ground, won't be turned around
And I'll keep this world from draggin' me down
Gonna stand my ground and I won't back down

Chorus
Hey baby, there ain't no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground and I won't back down

Verse 3
Well I know what's right, I got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushin' me around
But I stand my ground and I won't back down

Chorus
Hey baby, there ain't no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground and I won't back down
No I won't back down.
