My bike broke :/
So I was riding along back from the humble LBS when accelerating off a stop sign, my handlebar snapped in two (cue shock). Good thing there wasn't much traffic, it was a small street but i rolled a copule feet into the lane before stopping. The first thing I said to myself was aw *** I have to walk 4.8km back
Well long story short, handlebar didn't rip completely through so I could bike (relatively) unsafely home. New bike time! |
New bike just for a failed handlebar? Why not just get a new bar?
Of course, if you were looking for an excuse to buy a new bike... |
Just one quick question, was that bike purchased from the LBS? If it was, you might consider looking elsewhere for the replacement. I don't think I've ever snapped a handlebar.
|
Details would be good. Make/model and age of bike. Same info for handle bar. Any prior crashes or damage?
|
Hmm, how would you snap a handle bar on the road? I couldn't see that happening. Maybe if you were jumping off stuff but not cruising along the road...

Ummmmmmmm..................yeaaaaaa............... Maybe because it was so fatigued that it finally gave way? You can still put a hell of alot of pressure on a handlebar when your riding on the road.......think about it guy. |

Yeah I was standing on the pedals to accelerate because I forgot to shift into a lower gear when stopping for the stop sign. When I pulled on it to put more pressure on the bar sort of just tore away.
It figures though, left it out in the rain it was really rusty on the inside but there was no rust on the outside. It was one of those bikes I got at a garage sale ($20) and left it outside year round. Probably not a good idea to keep riding i seeing as parts of the frame are also rusting away as well. It's a "Leader" 13 speed MTB. Come to think of it I DID hit a car a while ago (6 months), broadsided it when an idiot decided to turn left in front of me because he thought he could beat me since I was only on a bike. Excuse the really bad image - only had a webcam handy. |

Just go to your hardware store and get a long piece of pipe and have like.. handle bars that are 8 feet long! Most cars would tend to stay away then ;)

Yeah I'm very intrigued by a 13 speed?
|
Maybe they meant a 14 speed or a 15 speed... :-P
|
People... two chain rings and 6.5 cogs in the back = 2 x 6.5 = 13. Duh!
