Learning the harmonica - while cycling

So a few months ago I started to learn to play the harmonica (blues harmonica), but haven't been able to get much practice in. Unfortunately my wife can't stand the sound of it, so it's been sitting in a drawer unplayed for a while now.

It seems like a great idea to start practicing to play while cycling to work to work and back. I cycle every day, and it is a 42km commute so I will have plenty of regular time to play during the ride.

I realise I'm going to need a harmonica neck holder, but not sure whether this will all work. Tried searching the forums, but this doesn't seem to be as popular as I was expecting.

So... any advice before I go and buy one - who else has tried this? Does it work? Will I get out of puff? Problems in the rain?

Thanks in advance!

Damian

Why limit yourself to just the harmonica?

Shouldn't this be in the "Worst riders" thread?

Go on! You're my hero!

Riding my bike is pretty much the only place that I DON'T practice harmonica - but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't go for it.

I think that the neck-holder will be tough. It's really not made for a bent-over biking posture. And it will limit your head mobility.

I say carry the harp in your back pocket for one handed celebretory riffs on your decents!

Why not?

Last summer I saw a car driver who was playing the acoustic guitar while driving.

I usually practice rudiments on my snare while I ride the trails.

You might think that I'm just making this up, but I understand that Bob Dylan taught himself to blow the harp while riding a bicycle on the back roads of Minnesota.

Tried the same thing commuting by car a few years ago. No holder needed--just put the harp on the seat between gridlocks. Got me lots of strange looks and passed the time in traffic jams...
