Anyone know the source of this picture?

I'm sorry but I have to ask. I'm sure we have all seen it before a hundred times but does anyone know any details about this accident? Looks like the driver just drove head on into some kind of group ride or event.

They must have swerved in front of the driver.

From the bigger picture, it seems the escort failed badly in his duty to protect the riders. Ideally, he would have heroically stood his ground in front of the riders and taken the hit from the car, saving a life. Since someone DIED in the wreck, I'd say it's in very poor taste to make a joke of it.

That picture was so stunning to me. It looked so ridiculous, but it was real.

It is from a bike race on Mexico. The driver of the car was drunk and killed one rider. Do a search, as this photo made the rounds about a year ago.
