Fun little challenge for you?

Hey!

So I've made this little challenge for myself: for the rest of the summer i gotta ride my bike more (distance) than I drive a vehicle every week. You can roll over kms for a day, but you gotta cash out by the end of Sunday or you lose.

So say you drive 200km over the course of Monday - Saturday and take Sunday off... if you had not ridden your bike at all during the week, you gotta crank out 200km that weekend or you lose .

The game might be ridiculously hard or easy depending on how much you drive... it may be a reasonable challenge for some. It's easy for me as I usually stay under 200km and try to get 45km a day in on the bike... but...

I just thought someone else might like to join in on the game?

I have another 65km I gotta do now this week and I'm still driving 'round for work . I'm confident I can do it... I doubt I'll put on more than another 60km from now 'till sunday, and it's supposed to be sunshine and light work for the rest of the week. I'll be doing at least 45 a day now 'till sunday.

Let me know if you're giving it a shot! let me know how you do

Great idea Zan, but I have a feeling that my 400 miles/work week may make things interesting when the Ohio snow sets in, keep it up though!!! Very cool...

It's a no-lose for me, as I am w/o a car. Does riding the bus count? I do that when the weather's to sh***y to ride....

I was thinking that might be a challenge and then I realized it was no real problem for me. My car only takes us to the doctor’s office or the store if my wife goes with me. I don’t put more than 50 to 75 miles a week on the car and I easily put 100 to 150 on the bike. Living in California the winter doesn’t change things much. Vacation might be a problem but I never count Vacation.

i'd think the winter would change things... call me a sissy, but I don't ride in the winter.

Well seeing where you live I might not ride much in the winter either. I donít have the same concerns but I donít ride in the rain. Still my winter mileage is pretty close to my summer mileage.

No problem....for the past 2 years, I have managed to ride my bike more than I drive my car - and I don't commute. Just a mileage junkie.

haha, i'm sure it is easy for some. i'm also sure there're some noob riders here on BF who might drive only a bit (less than 300km a week), and this'd be a good challenge for 'em. it's a challenge for me 'cause i just don't have the time/energy to ride. gonna have to crank out 120km this weekend... and i'm driving tomorrow.

Reminds me of a letter to Bicycling magazine a few years back -- the writer was extolling his 'hardcore' dedication to the ride, telling 'all you winter wimps...suck it up."

He lived in Hilo, Hawaii.

LMAO!

I drive about 65-70 miles a day, and just don't have time in the day to ride that far. Sorry.
