Going from 12-23 cassette to 12-27. Can I use same chain?

I am going to purchase a 12-27 cassette to replace a 12-23. I was curious if I would be able to use same chain?

Thanks!

Hard to say for sure. My old Felt came with a 12-23 and didn't need a new chain to run a 12-27 but if the current chain doesn't have an extra link in it, then you will need a new one. It should be long enough to wrap around the biggest chain ring and the largest cog with a link's worth of slack left over for the derailleur to take up.

Bikes: Catrike 559 I own some others but they don't get ridden very much.

Maybe. It depends on how your current chain was sized.

As a general policy, however, it's cost effective to install a fresh chain with a new cassette. A worn chain will cause your brand new cassette to wear prematurely. Cassettes cost more than chains.

NO! Always run chains and cassettes as pairs, they wear together. A new chain is cheaper than dental work after you fly the handlebars from chain slippage.
