max. odometer reading

Is there a bike computer available that doesn't max out at 999.99 miles?

Boudicca 07-31-09 11:25 AM

All the ones I know. For the odometer function at least.

They may max out at 9,999.99 miles though. I'm only on 8 thousand and something on the older of my computers.

Not sure how high mine goes. The main odometer is into 4 digits, so it goes at least that high. I would think the trip odometer does as well, but haven't tried. It's a $10 Schwinn one.

Mine goes to 9999.9 for trip distance and 99999 for the odometer.

Sigma (wired this time - the last wireless one got false readings from automatic doors and escalators)

My Cateye Enduro 8 goes higher...current odo reading is 10474

From what I have seen even the cheapo Bell as well as the lower model Cat Eyes go beyond 999 miles. What happened when you went past 999.99? did it reset to 000.00? A cheapo Bell that I had went from 999.99 to to 1000.0.

I was curious what would happen when my cateye strada passed the 9999.9 mile mark.

So I watched.

It showed 10000 (no fractional miles at this point)

I figured, Great, now I've got to reset this thing.

Then it showed 10001, 10002 and so on. And I've let it run its decimal-free course since. If I would want fractional miles on the odo, I'd need to reset it. I don't see the point in that, since I'd probably manage to screw some other setting up in the process.

I doubt I'll live long enough to put 99999 miles on any odo, but I guess the strada will go to that figure.

The $10 Schwinn computers have an odometer that maxes out at 999.99, and then it resets to 0.00. Useless for 1200 km randonnees!! :D

But the more expensive computers have a much higher max. I have used both Cateye and Topeak successfully over the years.

My catseye has 34,000+ miles on it,so it must go to 99,999 on the odometer part.

My problem is with my (Cateye) trip timer--max out at 10 hours. Sure, I can figure if I rode 13 or 23 hours easily enough, but a big disrespect to the rando crowd. Of course, at 33 or 43 hours, I might not be in shape to tell the difference.
