Where are Kryptonite Locks Manufactured?

I did a Google search without finding an answer and have thrown out the packaging for my Kryptonite locks. Does anyone know where Kryptonite high end U locks are currently made? Just curious.

Based on packaging info I know that OnGuard locks are made in China.

they were manufactured in the usa before 2001, but were another company, don't know what country they outsourced the manufacturing to.

My bet is a country that just hosted the last summer Olympics.

They are manufactured on the planet Krypton.

Fixed.

If you don't want a lock made in China, you could get the only one currently exported from the USA - a soldier with an M-16 A2.

Made in TAIWAN

According to the company (I phoned their customer service toll free # today), Kryptonite locks are not made in the U.S. There are plants in different locations. The Evolution Series 4 and New York Lock are both made in Taiwan.

It's worth noting that Taiwan has developed a strong reputation for quality metal work, and that wages in Taiwan are not nearly as low as they are in China. Perhaps that makes it slightly less bad that "Made In China." At least until Taiwan is someday reabsorbed into China.

Taiwanese products are several steps up from Chinese. I've been told China makes some fine products however when I ask where i can get these there is silence. My experience with Chinese products has been sub par to be generous.

Took 2+ years to get the question answered.

I was made in China; I turned out just fine.

fietsbob 11-29-11 03:50 PM

ROC>PRC.. many contract manufacturers, sub contract else where
offering lower costs.

FWIW, Abus locks are made in Germany, steel and all..

Incorrect. You are a member of the BF, there is definitely something wrong with you :P

According to a Youtube video some Abus locks don't appear to use the Abloy type mechanism, making them easily pickable. The guy shows himself picking one that he had bought thinking it would be more secure.

as far as I know, up till 2013 Abus locks had been made in Germany. They definitely beat Kryptonite locks, even if heavier to carry. KRYPTONITE locks might claim to be made in Taiwan, but they do not have just one factory. As far as I've read, they are made in china with Chinese alloys, which composition not just is sub-par to those of the ones made in Germany, but also NOT Consistent. I bought the same type of kryptonite lock twice, same model, same length, same packaging. Only 5 years apart. To my surprise, one lock was almost 4 oz lighter and thinner! It's too bad i now cannot afford the folding locks sold by Abus, they are the best.

It took this guy only 1.5 minute to cut a folding Abus with bolt cutters.
It would take longer to cut a U-lock.
Everything can be cut by a portable grinder.

Kal-El makes them at the Fortress of Solitude.

REDMASTA 07-11-17 01:34 PM

They are made in a factory
