windblocker polar tech jackets
been looking for a good fleece top....
any ideas... something to keep the upper body comfortable with the early morning chill... |
Honestly, I've had really rotten luck with any kind of fleece when the wind is blowing. As you know, there is always a headwind on a bike. So, to evade your question, my windbreaker is by Trek, and made of 100% polyester. It's incredibly thin, and very windproof, and seems to be worth about 15f in practice. I would prefer it had pit zips (underarm zippered vents), but you can't have everything in a garment that light and thin. I would also prefer the neon lime were colorfast.

wind blocker polar tech jacket
i found yesterday from a north face outlet store a windblocker fleece jacket for 72 smackers....
looks like it will do the trick.... i have a "Showers Pass" rain jacket with pit zips....and not pricey....if i remember correctly i think the jacket was between 70 to 90 bucks....i bought this bad boy witht the hood and pants with the rain booties last year......all together i spent ...and i think it was around 175.00 bucks.... i have seen some rain gloves from rei ....i will get next month when they become available in their store.... what i like about these gloves....are the removable shell from the polar tech inserts...... i fiure these will do the trick for those mid range temps.....from mid 50`s into the low 30`s temp range.. last year i picked up a pair of lobster gloves.....you can only wear those bad boys when the temp gets below 32.....other wise your hands sweat.... |

The "Gore Windstopper" stuff is very good at blocking the wind if you really want to block it totally. Biggest complaint is that it's breathable, but not as breathable as other stuff. Mostly, uh, non-windproof stuff.

Polartech has several fabrics. The WindPro still lets air through, but is 4x (?) more wind resistant than the regular stuff. WindBloc is the next level up, I believe that uses a sandwiched membrane material which makes it near windproof (similar to Gore Windstopper I think). Powershield has a tougher outer layer of nylon and is windproof.
