Pain in the back of leg, behind knee.

I have this pain in the back of my knee, where the leg bends. Not in the knee, but in the joint, behind it. When I cycle I feel it. Ive been trying to alter my bike fit.

These have helped me loads.

If it gets to be anything more then a minor pain, or regular, go to the doc ASAP. It only takes a couple of rides in pain to cause a need for months of rehab.

2] Posterior knee pain. Pain behind the knee is far less common, and much more straightforward. It’s almost always due to over-extending the knee.
  • Bike-specific problems to look for: a saddle that’s too high or too far back, although these are just as likely to cause pain further up the hamstrings.
Persistent pain behind the knee should be looked at medically to exclude a Baker’s Cyst. Named after the chap originally describing them and nothing to do with making bread, they’re a harmless bulging of synovial fluid into the space behind the knee. Your doctor can discuss treatment options with you.
This is a good look to have of your leg with the crank in line with your seat tube. Having your foot horizontal or heel slightly higher then the ball of your foot is the most common position for the foot, from my understanding.

Do you also have lower back pain at times , too ? Riding or not ? The sciatic nerve can cause pain that radiates down the leg, many times [ for me ] showing up first in the back of the knee. If it is sciatica pain, it will get worse . Take a rest from cycling !

I got out my fixed gear today. And felt no pain at all. With the same saddle adjustment. Could be the geometry to the bike?

Any ways. THis thread should be dead soon. Just wanted to see if any one had any the same expierence, or could relate.

According to Dr. Arnie Baker, author of Bicycling Medicine, pain in the back of the knee is as follows:

Causes
-------
saddle is too high
saddle is too far back
floating pedals

Solutions
---------
lower saddle
move saddle forward
limit float to 5 degrees

Changes should be made in minor increments, 1-2 mm at a time.
My personal experience with pain behind the knee is that my saddle was too far back... but's that me.

must be cuz my saddle is to far back. The geometry of the bike, Because, when I switched bikes, the pain went away. My friend at the bike shop (a pro in doing fits) hired my seat a few inchs.

Too high. If the saddle is too low, then the pain is above the knee.
