Checking Your Tires
So does everyone check their tire tread for foreign objects on a regular basis?
I only recently started (just lazy, I guess), and am amazed at how many little particles of glass I dig out, and I ride on fairly clean roads. I just use a dental pick and investigate anything that looks suspicious. Anyone else? |
Yes I do. My Kenda Kwest likes to pick up tiny stones. They are easy to be removed. I check it when I am inflating the tires with my air compressor.

don't check as often as I should. I will run my glove covered finger over the top of my front tire while riding occasionaly if I have riden thru some sketchy section of stone/glass to clean off debri.
|
Debris getting trapped in the tread is only a problem on the front tire of one of my bikes. I learned the hard way to make sure to clean those sharp little stones out of the tread or they will eventually work their way throught the tire and puncture the tube.
The back tire on that bike is a different style, armadillo, so there isn't any tread to trap anything. My Jubile Sport has tires with really close together tread, so nothing gets trapped. |
I really did start doing that until I read a thread on this board about doing so. I only find small pebbles in both tires, makes me glad that Ultra Gatorskins have Kelvar in them. Although I have tire liners, haven't use them can't be sure they will stay in place
