While I agree he deserved it...hitting the guy is assault, so you guys could have potentially been arrested as well. Right / Smart thing to do would be to put him under citizen's arrest, and call the cops. Dumb thing to do would be to beat him up and post a youtube video of it.

That said, that guy got off easy.

Jaa, citizens arrest......what world do you live in? Sad to say a beat down is a hell of a lot more effective.

DONT TAZE ME BRO!

I am glad you guys did not get your bikes stolen. Though this is kind of overreacting, I would likely do something similar.

looked like a lot of grade school shoving, not exactly the ass kicking the thief deserves.

i've had bikes stolen too, but you guys went way overboard. really 3 grown men beating up one unarmed thief. me, i'd be mad too and would call my freinds and i would want to take a swing at him. but you guys are total a-holes for doing this and if you don't see that then you guys will always be jerks and will never grown up.

I can't condone it, but at least It's one guy who will think about 100x before doing it again. If he went through your legal system, I bet nothing would change.

I sincerely hope you guys don't get caught for it, and I hope that you 3 aren't jerk's who are a-holes to anybody for no real reason.

EDIT: If my bike was stolen, I'd be absolutely crushed-hopefully that guy feels as bad as we do when our pride and joy gets nicked.

This video is being posted everywhere in the forums, so I'm moving this one thread to General Cycling (from Road) and closing others with links to here.

While I totally agree the guy deserved everything he got. I have to question the judgment of anyone who would film an assault (however justified) and put it on youtube. That is just asking for publicity and a lot of headaches.

I dunno. The thief got more than our justice system would have done to him, and if some wanna be thief sees it on YouTube maybe he'll think twice. Something about an asswhuppin that will be remembered.

I would be more concerned with the video gaining popularity on youtube and the police paying attention to it. Like I said the guy deserved it but filming what technically is you committing a crime is pure idiocy imo.

I don't think you have to worry about that.

This video has been removed due to terms of use violation.

Common the thief had drill (a weapon) so it was kind of self defense. He is lucky it happened in US in most country of Europe he would have some bones broken at least.

WTF? you call that a smackdown? my 6 year old daughter does more damage than that while playing with her dolls. These guys are the biggest bunch of softkocks, should have bled that frakken thief.... at least broken a bunch of bones. If I was rolled like that I'd be laughing from being tickled.

Didn't get to see the video, pulled down due to "policy violation".I find it surprising that many would just have called the police and done nothing else.Citizens arrest? How will you restrain them until the police arrive?Grabbing them is an assault so do what's needed anyway. The police in many metro areas have no time for this type of crime.Which is why it happens so often.Sorry for being as politically correct as an oil spill at a seal clubbing but what I do when catching a thief wouldn't go over well here.Attempt to steal from me is a grave mistake.Don't believe the system can do for you and you'll survive the coming hard times far better than those who don't.Good luck.
