New Bike!

Picked it up yesterday. Also got a Serfas Level 2 with cadence, a bag, and toe straps. I will probably go clipless next year.
I took it out last night and man, what a difference. Really nimble, shifts great, good acceleration. My first true road bike and I'm in love. The only thing to get used to is the seat...Owww! Attachment 118397 Attachment 118398 |
Congrats nice looking bike!

Thank you. You have quite a stable, she who must be obeyed asked me to lay off for awhile.

Congratulations, that's one nice looking bike. That blue is one of my favorite bike colors - reminds me of my Raleigh Record from back in the 1960's.
I'm starting to plan the purchase of an entry-level Road Bike, and Trek is one of the makes I'm considering. I'm curious, and hope I'm not coming across as invasively nosy, but the model you bought, would you consider it entry-level? How much did it set you back, and did the price you paid represent full Mfr's Retail, or was there a discount involved? Sounds like you're really excited about it, and that is a way cool thing! Good luck to you. |
BigBruce, thank you and I am excited-all I could think of was getting out tonight.
Yes, it is an entry level, but I'm staring out slowly. I paid $750 for it (plus the goodies) but I'm not sure of the MSRP on it. It was down from $799. |
Just curious what model Trek is that ?

1.2, aluminum frame, carbon fork, Sora components. Not high end but, the price fit my wallet.

Nice bike, how were those toe clips/straps installed? i am thinking about getting some for my stock platform pedals.

And not a negative comment- The wheels- and it will be the same on any lower end bike- They will not be that good. Think of new wheels and tyres as your first upgrade on the bike. They will be the best improvement you can make at this level and will always transfer to your next bike- when you decide what it will be. I got a pair of handbuilt 105 hubs and Mavic CXP33 rims with 36 DB spokes. 3 years later (And 3 other bikes) and they are still a really good set of wheels. They made a world of difference to the OCR. |

The first thing I did with both my Trek mountain bike and Madone was to lose the saddle. I've heard Trek saddles referred to as a a$$ hatchets. It certainly felt that way to me. It came off immediately. If it is uncomfortable now, I don't think it will get any better.
