1" raise in road
I took a spill yesterday after i was traveling across a 1" stepped raise in the road (paving stones turning into cement). It felt like the bikes jumped away from me in the opposite direction i was going.
In this situation is it just he wheel reflecting off the step, or does the tire grab the step and do something crazy? Note: this was just a funny road not steps. |
tires when hitting a step on the side will try to climb it and do some crazy stuff. It's why you can't guide wheels by using rails on the sides.

Recessed railroad tracks in town, and some storm drains can actually grab the wheel, but I think kendall has the right answer in this case.

When approaching a raise in the road, make sure you take your weight off the front tire (as much as possible). A good thing to lean is how to bunny hop, or at least learn how to lift your front tire off the road while in motion. Once your front tire clears an obstacle, your rear will follow too.
