Fair price for Trek 2.1 2007
Hi - Newbie. I am not sure where to post this. But what would be a fair price for a 2007 Trek 2.1 road bike from a private party with all basic accessories (bump, lights and a bottle rack) in decent condition. (not mint but not beat up either, no rust or visual problems, tires still look decent).

Thanks for any input.

2007, is it a Pilot 2.1? The regular 2.1 didn't come out until 2008 IIRC. Pilot tops I'd go would be $750-$800 if immaculate.. Regular 2.1 a little less.

It should be a regular Trek 2.1. The seller got it in early 2008 as an old 2007 model. So if I can get it under $650 I got myself a bargain, right.

I tried it. It is very smooth and fast. It's very light too! I love it. I want it.

The 2008 Trek 2.1 retailed for $1259.99. At $650 you have a really good deal.

Which means it could be bought in the $1100 range at an LBS. $700 tops. I'd offer $650 and come up. Disadvantage to a used bike is zero warranty, even the frame warranty is voided. Good point to argue, but really seldom an overall issue

I got the bike. Here is what it looks!
Thanks. It's a 2007 model. I got it for $500. I am so happy. I am going to start biking after taking it to a LBS to have it sized and "tuned-up" (Is there such a thing for bikes?) Paid an extra $20 for a helmet to take care of safety! Thank you very very much for your tips/hints. Thank you!

Thanks everybody for the advice and kind words!

I have a basic question. How should I use the speed shift? It has two flippers, one big and one smaller, on each side.

I understand I should use the right gears to make small changes. But what's the difference between the big and smaller flippers.

Thanks again!

Shift from bigger ring to smaller ring by moving just the small lever. move from smaller ring to bigger ring by moving the larger lever, which will move the smaller with it.

Big to small on the front (left lever) is less gear resistance, on the right (rear) it's more resistance. (gear inches)
